What can i get that would be beneficial

I am looking to buy a new external sound card for my laptop. I want something idealy under $200.00. What can i get that will give me good sound and quality and what is the different between a sound card and an audio interface like the m-audio firewire solo. Is it the same thing?

    soundcard=audio interface. They are the same thing.

    Under $200, there are a number of good-quality soundcards from m-audio, presonus, line6, alesis, edirol, and others. Check out sweetwater.com or some such and filter by price to see what's available.

    They are the same thing, they are some times called interfaces so folks won't get confused about the word "card".
