PROBLEMS WITH RECORDING VOCALS ON CAKEWALK MUSCI CREATOR..ADVICE PLEASE...

I AM TRYING TO RECORD VOCALS OVER AN MP3 IMPORTED BEAT....THE BEAT IS ON TRACK 1 AND THE VOCALS ARE BEING RECORDED ON TRACK 2...THE PROBLEM IS STRANGE...THE MIC LEVELS PICK UP FINE, BUT WHEN I RECORD WITH THE BEAT AND THEN PLAYBACK, IT SEEMS AS IF IT RECORDED THE VOCALS AS WELL AS THE BEAT AGAIN ON THE SAME TRACK 2..SO I HAVE TRACK 1 WITH THE BEAT AND TRACK 2 WITH THE BEAT AND VOCALS SO ITS OUNDS VERY BASSY AND DISTORTED..I AM SURE IT IS SOMETHING REALLY SIMPLE, BUT HOW CAN I GE T JUST VOCALS TO RECORD ON THAT TRACK...ANY HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED...

the first step is to turn off caps lock and forget you have that button on your keyboard. in addition to making your post look like you are yelling the entire time, it is very hard and annoying to read.

the second step is to check out the recording options on your soundcard, which i'm going to guess is probably a soundblaster or worse yet, a built-in soundcard. the recording settings are probably set to "what you hear", which is recording everything. set the recording to "line in" or "mic" depending on which input you are using.

Third step is to go to the Music Creator Forum. You'll probably get better responses there.

And a possible fourth step, if you have an Audigy/Creative/Sound Blaster sound card, turn off "What You Hear" in your sound card's mixer. HTH.

Oh yeah, lose the all caps.
