Lynx cable XLR connectors

Ok, I'm the first one to brag about Lynx cards and I try to talk everyone into buying one. I still love mine and it sounds fantastic but there is one area you can improve on. The analog connections cable that came with the card has the worlds cheapest XLR connectors and I'm not kidding. I can get the same ones at Tanner electronics for $ 1.59 each. I noticed on mine that the pins are starting to turn all kinds or dark colors like gun metal swirl stuff, can not be good. Considering all the gear I connect to now has Neutrik gold contact connectors I decided it’s time to get out the soldering gun. So I ordered some gold contact Neutrick cable mount XLRs and replaced all of them. I would suggest that anyone who has a Lynx card do the same. I didn’t do any kind of A/B test to see if I could hear a difference because I didn’t expect to I just feel better about having the best contact I can get after all the cash I paid for this high end gear. I just couldn’t stomach the idea of connecting those tarnished plugs to my Grace m902 and Grace 101 outboard gear.

Anyway that’s my one complaint with Lynx other then their butt ugly web site LOL ! If you have a Lynx card I would suggest you replace the cable ends with decent ones. By the way the cable didn't look bad at all for snake cable seems to be well shielded no panic there.

Are the conductors copper? Or were you looking at some kind of a clad wire?

EDIT-> BTW, where can we hear some of your material?

It was hard to tell the ends were already tined. I didn't want to cut any of it I just unsoldered it and resoldered to the new connectors. I don't have a place to put my music on line yet, I'm still shoping.

Update.. after some reading I found out the Lynx 25d connectors follow the standard Tascam/Mackie/Apogee/etc.. pinout. So if you wanted to spend some money you could get a Mogami Gold 25d to XLR snake and by just changeing a few of the XLRs to the other gender have a high end cable for your Lynx Two card The pinout is in the Lynx manual for the card if you want to verify it but from what I can tell it's the same and matches what Mackie has for their gear as far as the hot/cold/ground goes. All you have to do it figure out what input and output each connector is and change the gender if needed.

I was glad to find this out, I'm not sure I'm going to spend over $100 to replace the cable but at least I know it can be done if I want to without having to mess with the 25d end. This would also let you use a long standard 25d snake with the Lynx if you needed to put the computer away from the rack or patch bay. I guess after Tascam started using the 25d they became the defacto standard so all the other vendors stuck with it.
