AKAI MG-614

Hi-

I have this very nice unit I'd almost be willing to give away to a nice home, but I've been following the eBay auctions, and they get no bids.

I know "For Sale" threads are frowned upon here, but can anyone suggest where else I might post this, or is anyone interested for just the price of shipping and handling? There's no way I'm going to just set it out with the trash! It works perfectly. I'd be happy to post pics, and I have the original manual.

Thanks-

-Susan

    Tough one Susan.

    A few ideas...

you might consider donating it to a high school music department, or a church, etc. and take the tax write off.

Also, you might try "that" other place. They have a for sale section.

The problem is, working or not, few would likely want it for the same reason you are looking at getting rid of it.

It was a decent home recording unit in it's time, maybe the best of the "portable" studios when they were "in", but in today's DAW driven world of "3000 tapeless tracks, with 4.3 million different processing plugs available, burn your CD of your final mix in 4.2 seconds" .... it's probably gonna be tough to get rid of.

Short of a collector, or the avenues I mentioned above, I don't know either.

Personally I'd opt for the tax write off.

You could post it on e-bay for $ 1 or put it on freecycle for local pickup only.

    Hi all-

A direct donation is absolutely a possibility -- thanks Donny & Frank! I was hoping to find someone who has some 4-track tapes for it already and maybe just a bum unit that can't play them back properly. I have a bunch of 4-track cassettes I recorded on it, but I've already transferred most of the ones I want to keep.

craigslist is also an excellent idea, calaverasgrandes! I don't know why I didn't think of that!

    Thanks again-

    -Susan

I'd sure like to have it for shipping costs if you're willing to do that! It would find a loving and appreciative home.

Please let me know ASAP ... thanks!

I loved those machines(Akai MG1212/MG1214). I remember going to the music stores and drooling over them because I could not begin to afford one.

    Hi Susan,

Yes, the email address in my profile is accurate. Please send me a message there and I will send my physical address.

... the easiest way is if you send it USPS through the post office and put a value of $25.00 for customs. I am very, very appreciative and grateful for this and will be more than happy to reimburse you for your time and expense. I can send a postal money order or if you are set up for PayPal I can send the funds to you through there. Please let me know how much and how you would like to do it and whatever else I can do to help.

You have me dancing on air! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Sincerely,
    Michael

Yes I received it & replied -- not sure why that didn't reach you. I basically just need to find a decent box to ship it in or arrange for someone else to pack and ship it. I'm out of the house about 12 hrs a day now and haven't been near any place that handles this. I'll try to git 'er done in the next few days. Sorry for the delay. I haven't forgotten about it, believe me!

I sent you an e-mail via the forum link this morning -- I can't find your original e-mail to me for some reason, and I don't see the address in your profile now except for that link.

At any rate, pls check your e-mail. I can get to the UPS store today if I hear back from you within the next few hours, otherwise it'll have to wait until next Sat.

    Hi Susan,

I was searching for someone to repair my MG-614 when I came across this forum. I'm sure that by now you've managed to find a home for this machine but if by some chance of fate you haven't I would gladly pay shipping to have it sent to me. I have one that is on it's very last leg and I have near 85 tapes that need to be transferred. If you still have it would you please contact me at tanasimusic at gmail dot com . I would pay for all packaging and shipping.

    Thank you,

    Hi Michael-
I don't have a manual but I still have the unit Susan sent me.

Did I not send you the manual? I'm sure I meant to.

If not (and it's not online) I'll do some digging and if I find it then you two can bid on it!

    -Susan

P.S. Seriously, I don't think I've ever thrown out a manual, so if it wasn't included with the unit I sent you my bad and it's here somewhere.
