E-mu 0404 stereo recording

Hi, i was wondering if anyone knows how to record actual stereo tracks from an Emu 0404 card into sonar. Sonar gives me the option of stereo L or stereo R as inputs, both of which just provide a stereo track with the L or R channel on both sides. I have tried sending the two channels to aux. and recording that, however, when i select an aux input in sonar, i get an error message on playback. i've tried recording the L and R seperately but this just makes them sound really bad. (maybe i need to put "phase invert" on one channel?). Anyway, i tried recording two seperate channels at the same time and it didnt work. it missed sections out and went out of time, as if my pc couldnt handle it. (btw i am trying to record midi drums off a yamaha psr 220).

Has anyone got any solutions please? any help is much appreciated.

yes, with the "creative quality" drivers on the emu cards, recording stereo tracks in sonar is a nightmare.

you need to create a separate patchmix configuration for recording stereo channels.

    this page

talks you through it. i change his setup slightly by moving patchmix/output/physical from monitor to mix - this seems to bypass one gain stage.

having set up the new patchmix, sonar will now have 3 options in record source - left, right, and stereo.

patchmix is a bit hard to get used to -

    has heaps of usefull info.

Also, check the different session templates in patchmix -- there is at least one option that offers the stereo option. Patchmix is indeed a pain in the tochis to master, but once you've gotten in the groove, it has some awesome routing possibilities.

    Cheers,

thanks for the help, i have set up the patchmix as described (used preset) but i cant get any output from the ASIO strip that i have set up. why is this? it looks like it should be working.

actually, i just tried recording the stereo and i no longer get an error message when i select the stereo aux in sonar, and i can record in stero!
however, in patchmix the peak meter on the asio strip still doesn't move and i can't monitor the signal on it.
