Creating a singing crowd!!!

Musicians, I know i may sound a bit like if i wanted to make someone belive I played with my band in a huge stadium and almost sixty thousand people came to watch us. I WISH!!

Anyway, the song I'm home recording, hear, in Argentina, far away from technology, but not too far, has like a "coda". Here, a lot a people should sing a part of the song (it's a kind of Pink Floyd music). The question is, is there any software that could create that effect. In case there is, I'll pay shipping, so tell me anyway.

If there isn't any well known software, is it a good idea to record, for example 30 different tracks and then cloning them, adding some chorus, reverb, etc.???

Thank you. Please visit the web I'm making for a friends' band www.bandakmzero.com.ar, i'll publish their songs this week. Please, excuse my poor english.

Too much work if you try to build this. I mean hours and hours.

Have a party, set up a few mics and record your friends. The process will take about 2 hours and you'll have some fun. My 2 cents.

Get as many people as you can around the mic to sing the part.

Then, you can clone the track as many times as you like and nudge the additional tracks several milliseconds. This will give it a bigger sound.

Do what they've suggested. If you need more people, slap a subtle delay and chorus on the tracks.

I agree. You can get a very good affect by having 5-8 people sing the part 4 times and then using panning to make it feel bigger. One really cool trick is to have them whisper it 2 additional times... When this was suggested to me I thought it sounded like a silly idea, but it works.

All great suggestions - one more - put the mic farther away on a few passes to get more of the room sound or use different mics/signal chains for different takes so you don't get a build-up of certain frequencies.

There are effects processors on the market that will create the illusion of many people singing. Someone around here had provided a link to some plug-in that does this too. Do a little search around here for it (maybe on the Sonar forum too).

    Found it:

It costs $25 to register the plug-in. Might be worth it in the long run.

This what we did in London a few years ago.
The band was very much a live act with lots of audience participation; shouted responses and choruses etc
The album we made was studio recorded then we invited our regular Saturday crowd to a 'live' recording at our weekly residency. Had a huge audience that week who paid to be on the recording! On stage we mimed the album whilst the fans were recorded with numerous ambient mikes.
    Cheap and very cheerful!

I have tried this several times and it works very well.

Try to get at least 4 different singers for variety.

Lots and uncountable thanks to everyone. I'm sorry i took so long to answer. Today, I gathered like 15 people around two mics and after cloning, reververing, delaying, nudging I got incredible results. AMAZING RESULTS!!! I recorded them like 10 times (yeah, very good and patient friends), and another 5 whispered times. All of the recordings where different enough. THANKS TO EVERYONE. I'll check the forum and help other people as you helped me.
