Running S5PE and S6PE together... ?

No, not at the same time...

I want to use S6PE (should be in the mail this week), but I don't want to stop working on other things that are time-sensitive in S5PE.
So, basically, I plan on leaving S5PE installed for quite some time.

The question is to anyone that has v6 installed but still uses v5. Will the installation of v6 do ANYTHING AT ALL to v5's installation? Am I safe to install and not worry about the risk of having 6 on my machine?

    Corrupted:

You can safely run PE 6 alongside PE 5 with no problems. The only issue will be if you try to open a project recorded in 6 with ver 5. If you use, for example, the Vintage Channel VC64 on a project in 6 and try to open it in 5, you'll get an error code. Likewise with Session Drummer 2.

I agree, no problem in running different versions. ( I have 2 / 4 and 5 - and working only with 5, it's my favourite!) so as long as the harddrive has space, vers. 6 and vers.7......will follow or maybe only odd numbers?
because 5 i like (gimme five) ...than 7, 9 etc....
    cheers

    Thanks for the support guys,

Tony, not a problem. I'm sure I wouldn't attempt that anyway... I just want to play with a few meaningless solo projects until I get comfortable enough to migrate a few in and play with them, and then work with 6 on new full projects.

I just wanted to make sure no plugins would be changed to not work in v5.

    Thanks again!

The main overlapp is in the Cakewalk "Shared" folders. plugins and utilities will be overwritten. You won't lose anything not included in S6, but if they already exist, and S6 has a file with a new date, the old one will be overwritten.

Example, I opened Plugin Manager in S5 after installing S6, and now S5 displays the S6 plugin manager.

I am running 3PE and 5PE on the same machine and the only problem I have come across is plug in presets seemed to vanish after the upgrade. The only way I've been able to find them is to open projects in 3PE, open the presets in a project, and resave them. Then they became available in 5PE as well.

I'm not sure why this happened or how to prevent it and I'm not sure there isn't a better way to manage these things.

    Just so you know,

No, not at the same time...

I actually had 4.0.2 and the 6.0.1 web demo open at the same time to do a side by side comparison of the GUIs...that didn't even seem to cause grief. Granted only one was playing a project...

Example, I opened Plugin Manager in S5 after installing S6, and now S5 displays the S6 plugin manager.

It can happen the other way round, too--I opened the old Plugin Manager, which ran separate from the programs and was still on the start menu from Sonar 4--and suddenly Sonar 6 Tools Menu said "Sonar (not Cakewalk) Plugin Manager and would only run the old one! I wanted the new one back on the menu (there seemed to be no way to access it outside of S6) so I uninstalled Plugin Manager 1.o. Guess what? No Plugin Manager available on the Tools menus at all now!
Fixed it by reinstalling S6; now all menus only show the new and improved Cakewalk Plugin Manager.
So the old one wasn't overwritten when I installed S6 originally; I'd say it had installed to a different location, but when I uninstalled it, how come the new one disappeared with it? They didn't even have the same name.
    Oh well; fixed now.

Since my original post I have received S6PE and it's installed along with 5.2PE... no conflict problems to speak of so far!
