René: Hermode Tuning

Hey René!

Whatever happened to Hermode tuning in your synths? I know that Z3TA+ has it, and I LOVE IT. Rapture seems to have options for various microtonal tunings....but nothing based on automatic, context-sensitive tuning like the Hermode system. Am I missing some new technology that replaced Hermode? Or did you opt not to put it in Rapture? What about Dim Pro?

I'll second that. I use Hermode tuning in z3ta+ and really like it. I like how it makes pads sound smoother and sweeter.

We opted for not including Hermode in Rapture and Dimension Pro.

The interest behind the technology didn't seem to compensate the licensing costs. It's sad I know... I also wish we could include it in those at some point in the future, yet they are not a popular request. Don't lose your faith.

OK. I understand that. Licensing is so expensive for everything anymore. Well, if you get the chance to include it again, I loved it. [Now I'm REALLY glad that I bought Z3TA+.]

By the way, my first Z3TA+ driven clip is sitting in the Song forum. If you feel like hearing a bit of your work in action, have at it. [I'm not begging for attention, so don't feel like you need to post there. I just thought you might like to know you've got another happy customer who's having fun with your synth.]

    Cheers!

Understandable. Many z3ta+ users that I've spoken with about it return a blank stare. FWIW: Here's another voice from the wilderness in favor of it. It's a natural for DimPro, and it'd be great for some Rapture applications. Assuming it isn't buried in layered sawtooths, of course. For now, I'm happy that Scala made it in.

"Scala. You know, the Scala feature. S-C-A-L-A. Scala. Click on the the Pitch KeyTrack, and ... Yes, I know that there's a lot of files there. But, you see, there's a free application where ... Well, it's like detuning, except ...Nevermind. Use Multi."

Yes...but even Scala can't really compare to the real-time adjustments made by Hermode.

I just introduced my violin professor (Charles Castleman) from Eastman to the concept of Hermode a week or so ago. He was very interested -- since it's basically a set of algorithms to do what he and I and the rest of the violin world do all the time. At any rate....that's another person (in this case a world-famous concert violinist & professor) who showed appreciation for Hermode.
