Extecting audio from vs880 to play in Sonar 6

I recently aquired a Roland vs880 to cature ideas at rehearsals. My intent was to bring it home and dump them into sonar. Has anyone done this before? I'm told that the DI outs can do it but I can't find that information in the manual. All it seems to address is DAT backups which I believe is not the same and is just data that can only be used by putting it back into the vs880.

I have an Echo Mia card that has DI but I've never used it. Do I need a special cable to hook it up?

I used to have one of those. I ended up using a couple methods. The first one was the digital outs. If you are moving more than one stereo pair then you will have to line the tracks up in sonar after multiple imports (I used a recorded handclap across all tracks as my alignment "tool"). Does that unit have adat? if so you can do 8 tracks at once. I have also used the analog and direct outs, but that involves another D/A A/D conversion. I hope this makes sense. There is a discussion list for the VS series recorders at yahoo, I used to frequent. A lot of helpfull folks there.

The most accurate way is to sync the VS to Sonar and use the SPDIF out of the VS to Sonar. You can only do one stereo track or two mono tracks at a time. The best place to go for VS info is Here

It's not what you do, It's why you do it.

I dump stuff from my vs-880 all the time(mostly my old stuff to remaster in sonar)...via the digital outs.......or use it for headphone monitoring of sonar...sometimes.
The only thing I have to switch on the Vs-880 is the "master click" from INT to DigitL on the sytem menu of the vs-880
