Sample clip..."Over".
I have been away for A Bit...(busy helping wife take care of our new 6 week old baby boy)! So I have not had much time to work on songs in progress or take on any new projects till the last few days. So here is something I am working on for a friend. He is a Captain in the USAF and flies F-16's. I was asked by his wife if I could write some music to go with a video montage of him and his squadron and some air combat sequences. Now, I am not totally confident in my recording abilities but this is what I came up with for starters. I will also be doing all the video and editing for this project. I am doing something ALOT different than I did in my previous 2 efforts. On this song, I am running my guitar into a Behringer Vamp pro straight into my PC...and I freaking LOVE it!!!! (listen to my other 2 songs and you can tell the difference). I need to fatten up the clean guitar in the intro, but other than that I am semi satisfied. STILL...I am open to any and all critique. This song is slightly less than 2 min in length but it should give you an idea of what I am going for. Thanks guys n Gurls!! http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=595968

Hey PickAx, good to see you back again, and congratulations! (no sleep for a while now eh?) This was GREAT - that is a terrific guitar sound that comes in at 0:40, love the riff at 1:14. Drums are cool too, very tight with the riffs at the end. I bet this works a treat with the video, be interesting to see that if you post it anywhere like YouTube. Only thing I would maybe mix differently is the intro, I'd possibly double-track the clean guitar & pan left & right, then put the echoed lead and the bass in the middle...just a thought. Good work! Hey PickAx, this is cool and coming together well, there's just one thing that bothers me and that's the snare. This is is pitched too low and seems a bit dull. I feel it doesn't have the right impact for the track, which seems to cry out for a snare with a real crack to it. Easily fixed with a new snare or a tweak of the existing one (pitch, EQ and maybe some saturation or mild distortion to introduce new harmonics) then this'll rock even better. Guitar wise, excellent.

Thanks for the critiques and compliments JamesG, Drumz and Opaque!! I will definately remix the intro portion...and tighten the snare up. I was thinking that it needed a sharper crack to it also. I am hoping to get a "start to finished" song buy Sunday. (Baby permitting)....lol!! I will try and get my progress with the song up then.... Thanks!!

very satisfying when it comes in full throttle. I noticed a bit of popping in the right channel during the intro? What did you use for the drums? nice work

PickAx, That is a nice piece of work. Strong, energetic, aggressive but controlled .. I think it will fit the video montage very well. Really enjoyed the production on that clip too. Good depth, good breadth, great tone, very nice. Bill

What you have so far rocks. You can acually get a lot of good sounds from the V-amp pro. You do have to play around with it a good bit though. Most of the presets are just ok, but after some fine tuning, some are amazing.
