Original Country CD Project (Idea Needed)
Hey Guys, I've posted one other song I'm working on for my upcoming Country CD. This one is still very raw, but i wanted to throw it out there and see what you guys think would sound good as the main solo instrument. Heres our choices. 1. Steel Guitar 2. Fiddle (played by a lady who plays in a keltic band- that should put a slight twist on it) 3. Good ole lead guitar Or maybe a combo of all the above or 2 of them. Not sure where to go with it, but would love some feedback. The drums are still just a loop, so kind of over look them... Thanks Here's the link Coming Home to You

I'm hearing a lot of Glenn Campbell here. Recommend Good Ole Lead Guitar ( Maybe a tele neck pup or mid strat through a bright amp channel ) Also Piano ( Really key to my ears ) and Strings would really seal the deal. Steel could be used sparingly Sounds Good!

Really good song. My vote is for steel guitar, that'd be perfect. Fiddle (played by a lady who plays in a keltic band Uh, that's 'Celtic' by the way.....

I like how it's sounding so far. Feels sunny and classic. I really like the singer. As far as the instrumentation choices, I could hear some slide licks, a little piano riffing, and some fiddle soloing would all be nice. I don't know what an ole guitar is, but some guitar solos/licks would also be cool.

I vote for both good 'ol lead (electric, telecaster of course) guitar and steel guitar sharing the spot light. While one is doing more chord type parts the other can improvise fills and they would trade these roles back and forth.

Thanks guys, I was hearing a Tele aso, which i play, but i was trying not to have my songs all sound the same on my CD, although maybe that's not a bad thing either.. I was thinking for sure 2 different solo instruments. I appreciate the feedback ! Ok Celtic not Keltic oops

I write commercial country songs as a hobby. I have my songs evaluated through the Nashville Songwriters Association International. It's part of their member service. If you are writing for the commercial market, I can tell you based on my experience in Nashville they would tell you to update your melody. It's too dated. Your production and vocals sound good except for the timbre of the snare. I would recommend a deeper sounding snare. If this is an artist-driven CD you are making, then I think it is good for that. I think the song would work best with piano. It's too upbeat for a "crying" steel guitar and too mellow for a tele. Timing would have to change if you go with a Celtic fiddle although this could be part of a make-over to a more commercial sound. Not trying to rain on your parade here. Your talent and production are good. Just basing my opinion on what happens to me when I get a Nashville ear to give me advice. Good luck on your project.

Studio 1000, I like the song and I think my votes would be along these lines.. 1 ,an electric guitar , not a tele for lead but a more modern country rock sound like a Gibson Les Paul or a 335...with a little crunch for the melodic work ... 2, Acoustic paino playing melodic fills....in a few choice places.. 3, Ambient ..Tele...Crystal clear ..compressed ..real wet verb ..some echo ...for rythm in the higher registers playing triads .. and volume swells instead of steel or that bullsh*t Nashvile treatment of high strung guitar . 4, Mandolin a little of my $02 cents.. Hey guys thanks for the feedback. coxhb - Thanks for the feed back, I'm not into pitching my songs to Nashville, the kind of money you need to do that I dont have, and that's just to get your stuff heard, (by major labels anyway.) Like you said this is artist driven. The snare is part of a drum loop that i am using instead of a click track... This is an early mix. I just wanted some ideas of where to go with the song. I'd like to hear some of your stuff, do you have a website? And also thaks a bunch for the critique since i am working on a Country CD, I do want somewhat of a newer sound. Kenny - From what i've heard of your stuff you are a really good guitar player, and thanks for the feed back, I like your ideas. I am kind of stumped on the electric rythmn part I know it needs something, I'll try out your idea. Thanks for the feedback !

I hear a Skunk Baxter melodic pedal steel behind the whole structure, some flatpicking guitar to back up the chords, and some harmonies. Good tune though Mark

Hey Studio1000, i say try the fiddle, you can always go with one of the other options if it doesn't work. The opportunity to work with a fiddler may not come round that often and i could imagine it fitting while i listened. Whatever you do don't use that snare.

Thanks Opaque, I'm hoping to work with a fiddle player, I'll probably hold onto this tune until she is available. I'll have to re-post so all of you can see how it turned out. yes the snare is very "uncommercial sounding"
