audio difficulties

i am a brand new beginner. I opened the piano roll and was able to record and playback a composition. I saved and closed it, and started again, however, I was unable to get audio in any new compositions. My first composition continues to play back. The premade compositions also do not have audio. What do I do? Help! Please. Thank you.

what do you have listed in your MIDI devices as output?

    OPTIONS>MIDI DEVICES

OR - what are you using to hear the MIDI trigger? i.e. what's the output listed for your MIDI track?

    Dear Beagle,

I'm having the exact same problem as Shoshana. My MIDI output is Microsoft GS wavetable SW synth. I have changed it to my Yamaha keyboard and that doesn't work either. Maybe you can help both of us at the same time. I hope so! Thanks in advance, Janet

MS GS Wavetable synth will only work if you are using MME driver mode. That's the worst driver mode you could use - you'll not be pleased with the latency (the time you press a key to the time you hear a note) with that driver mode. If youwant to use it, just change it in OPTIONS>AUDIO>ADVANCED

If you'd rather use better sounds and have less latency, then go to the help files and work thru tutorial #8. It will teach you how to use a DXi Synth and will give you better sounds.

I followed your advice and changed the driver mode. I was already on WDM/KS, so I first changed to ASIO, closed the program, opened it again, and I completely lost sound, whereas before I had it on the piece I had already written. I tried it again to no effect, I then switched to MME (32-Bit), and still had no sound. I went back to WDM/KS to no avail. What should I do?

MS GS Wavetable will only work in MME mode, if you can't get anything to work in MME mode, then you cannot use it and you'll have to learn to use DXi Synths like I explained above.
