Motu 828 MkII and Ricoh firewire chipset...

Hi Guys...

I know that the Motu prefers Texas Instruments firewire chipsets, and does not work with NEC chipsets. My new Dell Inspiron 9400 has a Ricoh chipset. Are there any MOTU users here that use a Ricoh chipset without any problems? I cannot find ANY documentation on the internet that says the Ricoh is compatible or not compatible.... I might just have to buy a TI express card Firewire chipset, if the Ricoh doesn't work. I haven't had a chance to do any recordings with it yet to see how well it works..

    Hi Dave,

how did you go with that ?

I have the same setup - new inspiron 9400 and a motu 828mkII, using the onboard ricoh firewire port.

it stutters and burps badly after about 4 or 5 tracks recorded at 24/48. Basically unusable in this state.

I'm wondering if I need to get a pc card with a firewire port, using the TI chipset.
I also read elsewhere that the dual proc could be part of the proble, and that setting cpu=1 might help. Seems weird though.

    Any info ?

    Thanks in advance.
