OT: Backup your system before it ...
Hi I wanted to ask this awhile back and forgot about it. What do you use and how (?) do you backup your system to recover from a crash. I was looking at Norton's Ghost and Acronis true image (links at the end of the post). I not sure which would be a better solution. I would like to do two types of backups. A mirror image of my C drive. For the sole purpose to recover from a crash. And some type of full backup with incremental or differential updates to the full backup. I wanted to use this to copy my update music files in case of loss. How often do you update it? What do you update it to. CD, DVD or External HD? Thanks, Daniel Link for Norton Ghost Norton Ghost Link for Acronis Acronis True Image Home

Acronis true image gets my vote. Norton just seems to bury itself into every nook and cranny of the computer - feels intrusive Fred

I noticed that when I installed the trial version of Ghost, it had to download .NET Framework? I guess it needed that to function in the WIN XP environment. ??? TI didn't down load it. Just a thought. Daniel

I also backup to an external drive and keep any "important" changes on DVD. Acronis seems the way to go.

I put an order in at Amazon for it. It was the lest expensive I've seen so far. I like the streamline menu. Waiting for it to come in the mail.... Thanks, Daniel

Yes I got it. It was $39 on amazon when I bought it. It works great. I can back up my entire studio work each week. When I need a file from the compressed copy, there is a browser that I can explore to the file level and copy just that one file to another destination. I like the differential backup. Saves only the changes. It is easy and no trouble. I would recommend it. There is a demo on their web site you can down load it and try it your self. Daniel

Hey guys, thanks for this thread. I've been backing up manually, but this Acronis software looks great. I will check Amazon, but you can download it immediately from their website for $50. That and a big honkin' external HD is probably some of the best money you can spend.

I mentioned this in another thread but if you have a hard disk made by Seagate or Maxtor, you can download free software based on an OEM version of Acronis's TrueImage from Seagate's support site. The software is called DiscWizard if you have a Seagate or MaxBlast if you have a Maxtor. Cheers, jayson
