Recording Preview Ribbon Action in Z3TA+
Regarding Z3TA's Preview Ribbon, the documentation 'says',
"The ribbon sends MIDI Note-On/Note-Off messages with velocity to the host when Z3TA+ is used as VSTi/DXi, so those events can be recorded in real time if the host supports that feature. "
I've tried recording on the MIDI track (SONAR) that's driving Z3ta but haven't recorded any data. Has anyone done this successfully, and if so - would you mind sharing the steps you used to make it happen?

I never could get it to work, either. Maybe René will chime in this weekend, if he's not too busy getting ready for NAMM.

It requires a not very spreaded feature in the VST standard which is the host receiving MIDI from the plugin. At the time of the release, it was working in few hosts particularly Steinberg ones.

It's an old thing and was pretty much overlooked. But now that you brought it, lemme go talk to the SONAR/P5 guys :) Rene, Much appreciated ! In the meantime I think I'll try just capturing the audio in SoundForge running on a 2nd PC. I won't have the MIDI data to edit but at least I'll be able to record the results of the Ribbon moves. On a related note - it seems that every time SONAR Autosaves, the Sustaining Notes generated by the Preview Ribbon Action get cut off. Does this happen to anyone else? Again - I suppose I could just knock off the autosave while I'm recording the sound generated by the Ribbon action - and reenable it once I get back to recording in SONAR. Thanks,

Bumping it up...
I see from a thread in 2005 that a user was able to install a small app that enabled a "MIDI Loopback" feature. This made it possible to record the MIDI output generated by the Preview Ribbon. Given changes that have occured since 2005 (DirectX wrappers are no longer needed, etc.) I was wondering if anyone could recommend a current solution to the "issue" of not being able to record the Preview Ribbon's data in SONAR. Else...I'm waiting on René per above.

I have DirectIXer (I had it before I got Sonar 4P with the Cakewalk aka FXpansion wrapper), and the newest version I have has a MIDI out capture. I believe EnergyXT can capture MIDI-out from a VSTI as well, although I haven't used it that way before so I can't say 100% - I probably use 5% of EXT's features. Doug
