Noisey Notebook

First of all I've been using Cakewalk products since the mid 80's. This "new problem" is really driving me nuts. I'm trying to set up a mobile recording/softsynth scenario using Sonar Producer, Dimension Pro, and NI B4. I've tried several USB audio/midi solutions, from Alesis through M Audio, and ended up with the NI Audio Kontrol I. Using my Dell notebook on battery power is a pleasure. Nice and quiet, etc, everything works great. When the battery is low, the P/S has to be used, this is where problem starts. NOISE!!!
Before I invest any more, does anyone know if a Furman LineVoltage conditioner would solve this problem? Or should I go ahead and have a regulated/filtered power supply designed?

Thanks for the tip. I isolated the ground and no noise!
