DP Causing Gliching

Hi All,

New to DPro and I am finding that when saving a song with only 4 DPro tracks the audio gliches badly in Sonar 6. Is this common? I have latencey set at 11ms ...24bit set with 64 bit for mixing.. I have a P4 with 1 gig ram and a 7200rpm HD 8mb cache. All the usual tweaks as well.

Regards,
K

Can anyone at least confirm that they do not have any audio stutter/gliching when saving a song with DimPro tracks involved?

    Thank you,

    Hi kryon,

Once I've bounced or exported a track, there's none of the artifacts that you've mentioned. However, while I choose sounds while the track is still in its MIDI form, I used to get glitches - even dropouts before I changed some buffer settings.

What's the clockspeed of your P4? What's your audio interface (and which drivers are you using)? How's Sonar's CPU meter looking for these tracks?

Good questions...My P4 is a 2.8ghz......I have an Echo Mia (PCI) and a M-Audio Black Box (USB) w/ latest drivers on both. Both have the glitch/stutter problem and Sonar's CPU is 20-25%
Also I have a 128 mb PCI Video card.

There's quite a lot of disk I/O happening when you save in Sonar, especially as you seem to have only one HDisk.

Does it play fine whilst you're not saving?

Yes you are correct I have one disk partitioned. There seem to be no other problems...it plays just fine I can have several tracks along side of vocals and guitars with no play back issues and get the CPU up to 70% but when I hit that save button while play back is happening it causes the glitching problems whether I am at 20% CPU or 70%.

Lots of stuff is on the PCI bus - IDE Disks, USB, AGP video and, of course, your PCI Echo Mia - maybe you're just saturating the bus to the extent it can't stream audio and write to disk without obvious audio glitches becoming apparent.

I would reccomend getting a second hard drive and putting your audio and soft synth samples there. Partitioning does nothing to increase performance.

Does this only occur when you are trying to save while playing back? I use P5, and sometimes if I try to save while track is playing I get some crackles and skips.

    My advice......

    Stop playback ----> Save.

Yes..durring playback. I also own Cubase 4 and I can load that app. up to 75-80% with soft synths and save durring play back no problem. This is why I am perplexed. Of course I really cannot test DPro in Cubase 4 due to the current issues so I am uncertain whether it is my system..the application, or DPro.

Anyways I have decided to buy a new computer so we shall see what happens then

Yeah, since I have done that I have not had any issues. Same thing when an instrument carries over after stoping a track.
