Studio pics

After seeing Beagle's GOBO pics, I thought I'd take a few of my own. This is the setup I have in one corner of my basement room.

A closer view showing MC3 on my display and my Zoom recorder and guitar processor. My home made speaker stands look a lot like Beagle's stands.

Another view.

And one quick shot of my current electric guitars (sorry about the photo quality).

Got to agree with the beagle...way too neat. A neat desk is a symptom of a sick mind, I think that covers neat studios too. Really nice set up, some older guitars there?Just went back up for another glance at the pics...so clean, no papers all over the place, nothin' on the floor, no overfilled ash tray, stray beer cans, I just don't get it.

Yes, there are a few older guitars in the picture. The red one (3rd from left) is a mid 60s Imperial that was most likely made by Teisco and sold by an accordian company in Chicago. It had a dead pickup when I got it so I did a slight mod to the body and mounted a new Telecaster neck pickup to it - still has all original controls and wiring.

The black one (4th from left) is an 80s Korean version of a Strat, complete with laminate body! It has a great neck on it and after a few setup tweaks, it sounded and felt so good that I sold my Fender Strat and kept the Korean one.

I paid $20 for the Imperial and $40 for the Strat (came with blonde colored amp that I later sold for $40) so I have next to nothing in those 2.

The bass is a short-scale SX from Rondo music that cost $109. My "good" guitar is a Cort M520 which looks and feels a lot like a PRS but at a fraction of the cost.

And yes, the place looks that neat most of the time. When I'm recording there may be a few more cables laying around, but that's about as messy as it gets...

A few cords laying around? I can't even picture that from what we see in the pics.
Sometimes the old no name guitars have some of the best tones, don't know why, just seems that way.
    You got any tunes posted?

    Very nice.
Either you don't have kids or you have very big padlocks.
I used to have a mustang bass. i loved it. (I really like that beatle photo on wall from one of the Capitol releases.)
You do need a few small coffee 'rings' on your desk and some lyric scraps laying around.
    Thanks.

    Albert,
The only tunes I have posted are on my web page:
    https://home.comcast.net/~sjfoote/steve.htm

I'm having trouble with the web site and it won't let me post any newer music files, so the ones listed as current project are already several months old and they have all changed (as usual).

    No How,
I do have kids but my oldest is in college in Mexico (universidad de monterrey) and my youngest (16) has her own computer and music making software in her room, so she generally leaves my stuff alone.

I finally figured out how to create a page on Soundclick, so a few of my songs are posted there.

Hey, Steve, your link didn't work, but I copied and pasted it into a browser. I listened to Swingin' and Symphonic Beat

Really nice work. Nicely mixed. Great guitar playing. are you playing the keyboard parts or entering it as MIDI on PRV?

nice prominent bass on the 2nd one! I like it. Good stuff!

    Beagle,

When you ask about the keys on the second one, I guess you're talking about Symphonic Beat - if so, the answer is no. That is all created with loops. I do play all keys on my other recordings on the Yamaha - I find that midi takes me a lot longer.

Sorry about the link - I still have trouble getting those thing to work!

    sj,
I listened. It sounds great. Very nice mix and eq and balance.
Guitar playing was very good also.
    That was done on MC3?

    thanks.

Thanks No How. The Harmonic song was originally recorded with Audacity and then imported into MC3 once I had it up and running. I have almost completed a new versin of that one done entirely in MC3 with a looped drum track from Sony ACIDexpress. I should have that one finished soon.

The last one -Opening Section- is mostly MC3 with the exception of the guitars which were recorded on the Zoom 4-track and then imported into MC3. I edited them the best I could, but they still don't sound right to me. Maybe I'll redo those some day when I am caught up with newer projects.

Swingin' was all done on the Zoom.

I've just about got my process figured out - record in MC3 and Zoom, edit in Audacity, and then import the tracks into MAGIX MusicMaker6 for mixing and mastering. I have set all my software to 44.1KHz and 16-bit, so the files move between all these programs with no problems. For my level of skill, this all works just fine.
