This will turn you green.

There's a post of studio pics on the Sonar forum. Some of these folks have some incredible collections of both gear and instruments. Turns me green with envy!
Here's a link to the thread. The thread is 4 pages long with lots of pics. Some are really overwhelming!

    Hey Pete,
Makes you want to win the lottery, don't it?
Here's another thread that has been running for a while. I've got some pictures here, and you might recognize some other names as well. These range from way cool to what the rest of us have.

Hey that reminds me ... still have to drop of my lottery ticket!
Yeah, nice stuff. I love Midiroom's set up very much - but yours, Robert, looks great too! I always admired your strings collection as well as your miniature train display ...
I love looking at studio pics. Soon, once the final touches are done, I'm going to post pics of my brand new studio too ...

    Don't get too depressed Rick,
Right now, with the software/hardware combo you have on your desk, you have power we could only dream about twenty years ago. The rest is just icing on the cake.
    Heinz,
I didn't think anybody saw the trains in the background in those pix. I'll see if I can find some better pictures of it and post them or send them to you. What you see is a section that I tried to salvage when I cut my layout into pieces for a recent move. I almost cried for that one. Ten years in the making. Ten minutes to destroy it.

Oh no, Bob - I hate when that happens. A labor of love, and with a short 'bang' all (or in your case some of it) is in pieces. I am glad you at least were able to keep this part of the train display. I mean, what I have seen (which wasn't much) it looked really neat and interesting. I never had a train myself - but I've been to conventions and exhibitions and I've been in awe of this hobby ever since ... too many hobbies, too little time, eh?

    Heinz,
This is one of my favorite pictures of a train in a partially completed section. The smoke is done in Photoshop. I still need to work on that. To give some idea of scale, the engine is about 7" long.

Bob, I think this photo should be sent in to some photo competition or something ... Man, what a realistic picture that is! Even the smoke looks real at first glance especially. Great job.
I can see how much fun that must have been to set up like this. Just by looking at it makes me wanna build one too ... well, get realistic Heinz: no time, no space ... too many no's, . Instead I'm enjoying other people's train set-ups.
Thanks for sharing this pic, Bob.
    Heinz.

    Beagle,
Yeah, I dabbled for years, and finally focused on a small railroad on Southwestern Colorado(the Rio Grande Southern as it was in 1942). I am a history buff, and researching the equipment and scenery for accuracy is kind of fun. I even have blueprints of some of the buildings that existed at the time. All of the scenes are based on photos of real places. I think it's in my blood. My grandfather was an engineer for the B&O in West Virginia.
    Switch,
We don't want to make too many changes too fast, or it will blow your stealth mode.
    Heinz,
Yes it is time consuming, and like so many ventures(ie DAWs) it can get expensive. Happy to share with you.
    Gambler,
That is two-part polyester resin. It's the same stuff you see in the heavy clear coat on bars and some table tops. It sets up over a 12 hour period, and I pulled the waves and ripples into it with knives and Q-Tips as it hardened. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

That is a lot of attention to detail...don't know if I have the patience. Great work, wish I could see more. Too bad about the need to tear it all up, must have been traumatic.

Got to thinking after I posted this...Ain't we supposed to be talking about recording studios here? Sometimes a thread just needs to be hijacked.

Hey, no problem. In fact this is the first chance I've had to check back into the forum for several days. I've been re-vamping my studio. Got a new work station, rearranged the whole room, and even repainted. Now I've got a pretty nifty little studio going on. I don't know if it will allow me to become a better audio engineer but at least it looks pretty and makes me go, "Oooooo!" when I walk into the room.

Exactly, we want to join in with our 'ooohs' ... (well, I shouldn't talk, I still didn't post pics of my studio either - that'll be once the window to the recording room is in the wall).

Well...Even though I think it looks nice it's nothing to brag about. All I have is a computer with an M-Audio Delta66 soundcard, 2 monitors connected to a home stereo, M-Audio DMP3 pre-amp, 2 MXL condesor mics w/ stands, Yamaha PSR-520 keyboard, PODxt, Variax electric guitar, 1973 Guild acoustic guitar, and a 1998 Larrivee acoustic guitar. I'm hoping to purchase a Yamaha S90 ES keyboard sometime in the not-so-distant future. There is no window with a nice view to a recording booth. I'm set up in just one room that's only about 10' x 11'.

I still have to get some foam for the wall behind the monitors but not sure I want to mess up my newly painted wall yet. LOL

My little setup falls far short from the setups I've seen in the pictures of other's and I'd just embarrass myself by posting pics of it. But I must admit that I've set up a very efficient little work station compared to the way I had it set up before.

I also have a 1973 Guild acoustic...very beat up, had to refret it, rework the fingerboard, wore divits in the "d","g",and "c" chord positions, new tuning keys (about twenty years ago), refinished it top to bottom, repaired a major crack in the face, reglued a seam at the side, and I still wouldn't trade it for anything I've seen yet. It has the most incredible sound, I have a new song in the works where I'm gonna try to capture that sound as well as I can. In '73, they were still hand made, and Guild had a few master craftsmen in their house. Read a lot about them and that time period, but of course, I can't remember any details. Great guitars.
