driver works but no sound

I have a strange little problem here. I'm running WinXP MCE and Music Creator 2003.

WDM drivers don't work at all. I switched to MME drivers, MS Watetable synth shows up and appears to work. However, I don't get any sound output. But, if I open and play a midi file in Windows Media Player, stop it, but keep WMP open, it works just fine.

As far as I can tell, Cakewalk can't open the driver. Is there a fix/patch for this without upgrading?

    you'll need to tell us more about your computer specs, especially the sound card
