6.2 crashing frequently

Hey guys,

I'm getting this error message a lot since installing 6.2

Error - Unhandled Exception

A fatal error has occured.

Module D:\Windows\system32\ntdll.dll
Exception code C0000005
Address: 7C911C20:0519F158:0519F1CC

As a result of this error SONAR is about to exit abnormally.
Should SONAR try and save a recovery copy of your work?

What is this all about? I'm getting at least 3 times an hour and I havent been able to associate it with any particular operation or task. It happens when I arm a track, close a project and even during an export opertation. Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks,

Eric

    Eric,

Unfortunately those error reports wont give you a clue as to what might be wrong...post your computer and hardware specs (soundcards/interfaces etc.) as well as what plugins you are using in the project that keeps crashing. The more information, the better

    Hey there.

Thanks for helping out. I should have posted this info in the first message. I know better than that. :)

    Here is the information:

    Hardware:

    Core 2 Duo E6600
    Asus P5B
    Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 Ram
RME HDSP9652 (BETA 17 driver which I've been using for a while with no problems until now)

Plug ins - Voxengo Pristine Space, Marquis Compressor and Gliss EQ.

The unstable behavior started after I installed 6.2 It will crash with any project with any combination of plug ins. The simplest project of 2 audio tracks and one Pristine Space plug in crashes. It happens when I enable record a track, when I close a project, try to open a plug in GUI or render an audio mixdown. It seems rather random to me.

This system and the OS installation (XP SP2 Home) are only a few months old.

    Thanks,

    Eric

I've been getting instability too since installing Sonar 6.2.

I am about to switch on the DAW so will report back with the error code in a couple of hours.

This was one of the exact same error messages I was getting yesterday - I reported this in my other current thread entitled "I don't know where to begin...."

Also with 6.2 installed. I had just completed a major PC upgrade. Virtually everything (except the DVD burner and floppy drive) was brand new. I expected some problems but I was getting so many crashes and error screens in such a short period of time, I didn't know what to make of it.

As indicated in the previous thread, as a last resort I reinstalled Sonar and it seems to have made a positive difference. But I haven't experimented enough yet to say for sure. It was so bad before the reinstallation I was contemplating rolling back to my previous hardware. Time will tell. I will be running the system all day to day so we'll see what happens. If I can make it through the day without a crash, I'll be happy. One other thing - I haven't installed the 6.2 update yet. That might be a source of trouble too but I also haven't installed all my 3rd party VST plugs either (I don't have that many really - maybe a dozen or so) so when I start down that path, I'll be watching closely. Good luck!

ok, i'm going to do the poor me bit. I posted a thread the second or third day of version 6.2 of my constant crashes and got mostly responses of others who said theirs was fine. it made me feel lonely. and now there is a whole rash of problems i see.

I went back to 6.01 until my (@#!# special 64 bit vista version for an extra $10.00 and a couple weeks mail time) arrives. Then i will do as good as a clean install that vista will do... NOT! Vista upgrade packages can not do a clean install. it only overwrites your old polluted XP. Man whats going on out there at microsoft. and if they were going to make a version of windows that truely can only install on one PC per serial #. It seems like the cost should have dropped by 30%, not increased by 30%.

anyway, i am optomistic that after i reformat, reinstall xp pro just to install vista 64 bit that things will work ok with 6.2. however there is definitely bugs in 6.2. i got all the same crashes that all of you are talking about. and now that i went back to 6.01. i get lots of pops and cracks, but no crashes. best i can figure is that 6.2 may have kept some pollution in the registry. Can't wait to clean up the PC and retry 6.2.

I know this doesn't help much but before my major hardware overhaul, Sonar 6.2 never crashed like this. I never got these types of error messages. Granted, there were other annoyances but nothing that prevented me from getting work done. I assume this is part of the inevitable upgrade learning curve associated with a major PC overhaul. Or tweaking Sonar to get it to play nice kinda thing. Or maybe it really is a bug (or bunch of 'em). Who can tell?

Well, my crashes are just "Sonar has encountered an problem" type messages when trying to insert a softsynth into my latest project.

It may be down to the memory though because I am up to 1.5Gb.

    Thanks Noel et al

I will take a look at that upgrade solution when I install 6.2 later today to make sure it went through properly. Seems odd with a fresh drive and install that things didn't go through as expected but if it fixes the problema - all is good :-)

Perhaps those of us who downloaded the 6.2 patch right when it came out ended up with a slightly corrputed file. Many of us had incomplete downloads of the patch and it took me about 9 treis before I had a complete download. I going to look at what Noel suggested and then redownload the patch.

I tried Noel's suggestion and so far it has been stable. I worked with Sonar for about 45 minutes with no crashes. It's probably too soon to breath easy but I will report back after I've had a lenghty session. If it crahes again I will uninstall S6 and try a reinstall with a fresh download of the 6.2 patch.

Noel, thank you for the help!

Larry, have you tried the dll thing that Noel suggested 2 posts up? I'm curious if it helped you.

I have been running V6 (plain) all weekend now and not so much as a hiccup. No crashes. Nothing. Reinstalling it helped. I will attempt a 6.2 upgrade then time permits - probably later in the week.
