Instrumental tune - first post in this forum

Hi,

This is my first submission to this forum. It's an instrumental tune - a few synths and some guitar.

It's called Streiflicht.

Comments and suggestions highly appreciated.

Regards,

Tommy

    HI Tommy,

Interesting hybrid of styles you have there. Good tone on the guitars.

What are using for the synth sounds? I liked that 'Mellotron-y' sound.

    I feel for you.

Thanks for the listen and for the kind words.

As for the synths: It's Triangle II for the bass, Rumpelrausch Täips Crazy Diamonds for the pads and Synth 1 for the Clavinet (sometimes I'm really cheap). The Mellotron sound ist Cakewalk's Dyad. The sound is called - believe it or not - Mellotron Strings.

    Again, thanks for the listen.

    Hey Tommy,
nice recording and mix but i really think you should swap out the drums for something more fitting.

Guten Tag Tommy! Nice song you got there!
I really dig your guitar playing; you seem to have a lot of skills playing them! Performed really well.
Mixwise, I think you've done a pretty good job with panning and with placing all instruments in the sound spectrum.
However, I would switch the pads to an arrangment of strings, perhaps. The Floydish kinda sound didn't do it for me. This song has a lot of potential; right now, though, it sounds a little bit 'empty'. Could be the lack of vocals, the bass guitar or maybe you ought to use a different drum pattern (as mentioned above by Opaque Slogan).
All in all - good job. And welcome to the forum!
    Heinz.

    And welcome to the forum!

    Thanks.

Thanks for the listen. Some very good suggestions. Definitely worth to consider.

BTW: I visited your pages (all three of them) and listened to your music. What a broad range of styles. Great.

    Regards,

    Tommy

I like the way this piece builds. Unlike Heinz, I dig the floydish thing you got going on here. Also the clean guitar funky bit around 2:20. Great feel. I can see nick's point about the drums though. kind of high end.

Very interesting piece! I like its character.

As far as the comments on the drums, I guess it really depends on whether or not you're trying go for a "real" drum sound or not.

Personally, I kind of dig the sort-of march-like electronic feel it's got going.

Nice synth tones. Nice full sound. I liked the overall tone a lot. I thought the guitar should have a little more punch and drive given the overall mood. But I loved the background, I would have like to riff on that myself.

Very cool, song starts out mellow, dreamy, kind of dire straits vibe, then changes. Like the mellow-tones and da guitars sound great--good stuff!

Actually the drums and the synth bass were intended to be kind of a counterpoint to the plain rock sound during most of the track. Maybe I overdid it?

Daryl and jimrocks: Thanks for the listen and the kind words. Glad you liked it.

And Daryl: If you'd really like to have a go at it, I don't see a problem. That's always possible and I'd feel honoured.

    Tommy
