The Sacrifice

Hi,

Please give my new song a listen and let me know what you think. All comments are greatly appreciated.

The Sacrifice

Thank you. Darryl

p.s. The JTM45 and 18w amps recorded on this song were hand built by yours truly.

Lyrics:

Alone we stand by the sea
Climbed the mountain to be free

surrounded by a wall of hate
Sold to others is not our fate...our fate, our fate.., our fate...

(Rap) Come on, Come on, what would you do if you were faced with it too? Sacrifice
Sacrifice, Sacrifice, Sacrifice...

Break the jars, write the names
draw the lots and draw the knife

Choose between certain hell
or the life of one god...one, one, one

Remember the Sacrifice.

Great job. The nylon guitar with the distorted guitar at the intro, who would have thunk it and it worked nicely. Did you play all the parts? Is that a real drummer or programing? Really well done.

I think its awesome. The guitar work souneds incredibly professional.

I think the vocals sound a little thin for the weight of the song. Maybe some multitracking of the vocal?

Seems pretty good. loved the nylon string intro. Performance is solid.
My only comment would be the verse vocals. They do seem a bit thin. I'd love to give some specific solutions..but vocal production is not one of my strong points.

    Other wise...well done!!!

    Darryl,

Great chops on this, nice production. Good variety of vocal treatments. Everything seems mixed quite well. Noticing that the drums in particular seem even and well balanced. Good work Darryl.

    Hey Darryl,
    Still struggling with those amps?
Everything sounds really good. Gang vocals are cool.
If I were producing this for you and listening with a critical ear,
I would say revisit some of the vocals for phrasing and pitch in some parts.
For instance "surrounded by" sounds a tad awkward as well as "Sold to others is not our fate"
Everything else is sweet...even the DOD...

Ed, Thanks and thanks for helping on the mix.

fep, Thank you for listening. The acoustic is a Taylor 710; I pointed my AT4047 at the 12th fret and hit record. Yes, I played all the parts but I'm always interested in collaborating. The drums are Drums on Demand.

I think its awesome. The guitar work souneds incredibly professional.

Thank you, marco69. My vocals are pretty sucky. If anyone is interested in collabing on vox then please let me know.

Hi opaque slogan, Thank you for listening and commenting. Glad it sounds good. I am not familiar with Primus; I give them a listen.

tycyphy, yes my vox are notoriously sucky, but I keep trying. Perhaps I should go back and record the verse again. Thank you for listening and commenting.

Thanks Bill/ToneCarver. Getting the drums and bass to sound good is always a challenge for me. This is because the drums are mostly pre-processed.

Hey RLD, Thanks for pointing out the bad phrases. That gives me direction on what to improve. I would like to think I'm getting better at mixing DOD. Basically I compress the individual tracks (except DOD because they are already heavily compressed) and tweak a preset on the Elephant limiter that doesn't heavily compress the master track. Eventually, I want to go EZdrummer, but I'll go there when I build my next DAW.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your vocals. I think for the weight of this mix the vocal is reading too thin, from a mix standpoint, not a performance standpoint. It needs some reverb or echo or multi-tracking to make it sound thicker on the main verse parts. The other parts read well.
