Ray LaMontagne: Trouble

Now I may be a bit slow in catching on to this, but I've just recently bought this album... is it me - or is this one of the best recorded albums I've heard in quite a while?

What hits me is how natural it all sounds. Does anyone happen to know anything about the sessions?

Not a lot, but I agree, it sounds superb. There are all sorts of stories going around about this guy being some kind of 'backwoods genius' but it could all be hype. I've seen him live on UK TV and he's excellent, very intense.

Ethan Johns produced "Trouble" along with Ray LaMontagne's latest record, which in my opinion also sounds excellent.

There's an excellent article in Tape Op #49 on Ethan John's setup and philosophy. Ethan Johns is one of my favorite producers.
