No MIDI sound.......!!!! HELP!!!!
Hi just installed SONAR 6 + all updates - i have windows vista and i do not have any problem with .wav sounds but SONAR cannot playback midi for some reason. I have selected midi out DMX6 Fire midi (because i have TERRATEC DMX 6 FIRE as a sound card) - Please can you suggest any other solution in order to have MIDI playback? Thanx

DMX6 Fire MIDI is the MIDI connector on your soundcard. If it is not hooked up to an outboard synth or other soundsource, the signal is just dying. You need to have external gear hooked up to your soundcard's MIDI ports, or you need to insert a softsynth within SONAR (Insert>Softsynth>) and use that as the output. You can also right click on the effects bin of an audio track and insert a softsynth that way, making sure the MIDI track output is set to that synth. This is all in the manual and the help file and the longer .pdf manual on the DVD.

Hi Jerry- Welcome to the forum! What are you routing your MIDI track to? As jinga8 said, it has to be routed either to an external (hardware) synth or to a softsynth you've inserted in SONAR. Let us know what the Output is set to on your MIDI track. -Susan

For playback of a basic midi file you can insert the Cakewalk TTS-1 softsynth that comes with Sonar. Then select the Cakewalk TTS-1 output port on your midi tracks instead of Fire Midi out. Sven

My solution was pretty simple - I just went to OPTIONS --> AUDIO --> ADVANCED --> and then changed my DRIVER MODE to MME (32 Bit). Then my midis played just fine.

Sorry, but your simple solution was the weakest possible. Instead it would have been worth it doing the tutorials about using soft synths. You are now using the poorest possible drivers and poorest possible sounds, MS Wavetable synth. Inserting TTS-1 or other soft synths you'll get more and better sounds. It is also possible the MME defaulted to your crappy integrted soundchipinsted of your Terratec. The 1500 page manual on your DVD is worth reading, if you ever want to use even close to the full potential of SONAR.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Herring, I hope you followed the advice on this thread - You don't want to be stuck with the sounds you managed to finally get, because those are just a low quality set of General MIDI sounds on your computer's sound card. You have Sonar, with a lot of great synths available to you - Go back to Asio drivers and follow the instructions on this thread so you can start benefiting from having Sonar. Randy B.

Now it makes logical sense why he had JUST installed Sonar 6. I was avoiding the thread due to my "pirate ship" on the horizon radar warning. It was also great to see the return of Susan, Always look at the date of an OP before getting excited> The OP must have figured everything out as never returned since 2007.
