Finding out what NRPN is what

This really gets on my man boobs.

So, I'd like to have a separate envelope of a certain function of a soft synth in the tracks view.

I can of course assign a midi controller to it and twist away at my knobs (err..). But then, a ton of midi data isn't what I'm after.

How can I find the correct NRPN for a very obscure soft synth control and make a nice separate line envelope control in the tracks view?

I'm not very good at all this secret stuff, but I'm getting better and better in little ways every day.

Thanking you.

NRPNs are specific to the synth in question. The documentation will have a listing as to what a particular NRPN does. Another way to answer this is if you don't know what it is you can't use it.

Im not sure there is a "correct" Non-Registered-Parameter-Number. Isn't it the case where you just choose one to use because it IS non registered. Havent done that stuff for years but I think you can adapt any of them for you own use. Maybe wrong but hope this helps anyway.

CCs are for GM that is all GM synths will follow the standard CC list. NRPNs were brought about so a synth maker could have additional functionally. They work only with the synth they are designed for. They do not translate to another synth. There is no standard as to what one NRPN does on a synth. Only the synth documentation will list them and what they do for that synth.

No. These were not the answers I was after.

If I record a track of automation I can see the graphic up and down midi shïte, but how do I then know what nrpn it was?

Is there a way of telling what parameter that was?

If you have recorded it... which you imply you have... why not look at it in the Event View?

We are born naked, wet, and hungry. Then things get worse.

    OK. Will try that.

    The event view

And from the event view I can find out what nrpn it was.

I just hope so for your sake.

    Thanks. Lost Chord.
