FingerFiddle - highly recommended

For those of you that are instrument players, with iPads, I must give a shout-out to this app:

FingerFiddle:
http://www.fingerfiddleapp.com/

The developers put effort into making this virtual model intuitive and musical. The capacity for subtle and emotional performances are extreme. It does require some practice and hand co-ordination (especially for vibrato) but the pay-off is big.

If you're not a fan of bowed string instruments, this probably isn't for you. I also don't know what difference my 4 years of violin lessons as a child affected the ease with which I became comfortable with controlling the model. Certainly it plays more like a washboard than a violin... at least, that's the position that is most comfortable for me.

I'm totally intending to re-do some of my pre-recorded sampled cello tracks with this instrument.

Part of me wants to keep this app to myself, but it is such a great app that it deserves wide recognition. Give it a try.

Another one is quite interesting too, from a guitarist's point of view: Geoshred by Jordan Rudess:
