Finished the case
except a little keeper strap and brass I.D. plate that will cover two mounting screws above head. It's Red Oak. Two earth magnets hold the door closed- top and bottom and no handle. Anybody but me wouldn't have an easy time opening it....at least I'd probably have time to notice them first. Those are some very strong magnets. Had an idea while building this ..smaller, mounted to a floor standing base. It wouldn't take up much room so I could keep them close to the DAW and they'd stay cleaner and protected....just an idea for now. No.1

Thank you Ed, Steve and Marius. I got a hard cover book of the build to stick in the case. I also got books of all the builds so far...it was great to see your bass and Ruby again. I didn't take may shots during the build of No.1...didn't really know what the heck I was doing and lucky just to finish it but the book has at least some of the main tasks. My wife took the door frame into town to get the glass cut... she had to take photos of the builds to show them...they were guitarist. She had a great time lol. Well I'm glad it's done. I'm not a carpenter and built this because I wanted it-not that I enjoyed building it. Much different than building a guitar...no love went into it...if that makes sense. Cost me a thumb nail too. Dumb-arse me. edited poor typing

Also wanted it in my shop so other guitarist could check it out....you know how some of those guys are...and ya don't want them in your home LOL.

Great stuff. What kind of axe is that? BTW, if you successfully built something that nice you could probably start calling yourself at the very least a novice carpenter. Cheers.

Wait... you built the guitar too? Like cut and routed the body? If so... you're a carpenter.

Yeah Beepster...built the guitar too. It's the first one I built. Strat style neck-thru. Everything was from lumber. Maybe someday I will deserve the luthier title...not interested in "carpenter" lol. After playing them for 50 years I thought I could build one...turned out that I could.

A fitting case for a beautiful guitar. Maybe love didn't go into building the case, but I believe that your love of the guitar did.

Thank you Alex, Craig, Beepster and Old55. I'm so proud and humbled that such an accomplished bassist/musician/producer would play a bass that I made. Thank you Ed. I'll never forget the excitement of getting the chance to build a bass for you...and my first bass. Man I feel strange having time to post today even after doing all the yard work!

Craigb I can't even spell Alempicks...I felt good getting the "Bapu" name plate right. :) Wookiee. Thank you. I guess it's a space case. Craig that's a thought... Beepster I think Music Man would have to do that...to bad 'cause I could use the jelly beans. Thank you Barry. I did a search to see if anybody was building these and found this as well as some other very high end cabinets...I freaked when I saw the costs.

Carpenters frame houses. This is several degrees of precision beyond that. Finger joints on the corners. Mortise and tenons on the door frames. You say no love went into this, but the level of craftmanship showing is every bit what I would expect from you. That is some fine workmanship, Mike.

Beepster! Vaseline?? YUK! Thank you very much Bob and James. James that is exactly why I mentioned what happened. Naturally I wouldn't want to post a stupid but if it may stop somebody from one of the worst things I know of...perfect. James there has been one thing said ( at work safety meetings about my accident) that I heard above everything..."It is a two-hand tool". I was holding the end of metal-that was in a vise too- and using the saw with one hand. Bummer. There is no good reason that the reciprocating blade mount is not guarded. Very bad design flaw. Fortunately I can still count how many times I've used this tool on one hand.

Beepster you're right. It wasn't good. I was cutting a piece of 3/8" rod metal. I had it in a vise but was also holding the end of it. When I hit the power it was over. It happened so fast I didn't even see it. The saw obviously jumped over enough to crush my thumb with the reciprocating part that holds the blade. Hit right in the middle of my thumbnail which ripped it mostly off and put a seven stitch cut. Thanks for asking- I'm fine. My thumb is pissed though. Stitches are out and maybe in 8 months or so I'll have a new thumb nail...pretty sure it won't be as before. I'll probably be able to play guitar again in about a week. It's still pretty sensitive to pressure and bending. (left hand thumb) I've had a good many nasty cuts in my life...I believe smashing or crushing is much worse. Fortunately it didn't hurt the bone bad enough to require an operation. Obladi, Oblada.
