Fire Wire Mixer & Sonar 6

I found this posted as a review for Alesis MultiMix 12 FireWire 12-Channel Analog Mixer on MusiciansFriend.com. Can anyone confirm that this does or does not work well with Sonar 6 Home Studio Edition? If not, what other fire wire mixer will?

Thanks
Vibesoun

Beware; this thing has all kinds of playback problems in Sonar--check the cakewalk forums. The Alesis support only responds by telling people to wait for driver updates.
It apparently has issues with dual core/multi computer systems. The audio playback will randomly go into a distorted jumpy mode where everything plays back too fast. After two weeks of messing with settings and reinstalling everything up to and including Windows, there is no solution. Maybe it works well with Albeton, I don't know. All my material is within Cakewalk.

I'm using a Multimix16 Firewire. Running on an old laptop (1.7Ghz with 1.5 M RAM) my system didn't like the new driver (07/2007) so I went back to the 12/2006 drivers. Did my first recording with HS6XL today and it went great, 8 audio tracks no MIDI.

If you're running Vista with this mixer and get it worked out let me know. I haven't tried it with Vista yet. Also if you need the old drivers for XP I have 'em.

    Thanks Ed,
I'll need those drivers. I think i'll buy Alesis MultiMix 12 FireWire 12-Channel next month. This is just what I need to record and use the mixer for live performances. All in ONE !!!!!!!!
    Thanks again.

If you havn't bought the mixer yet, it will come with a driver disk, those should be fine. If not let me know.
BTW, if you can get another $100 I would highly reccommend the Multimix 16. you get 4 more mono channels with pre-amps, that's only $25 a channel and worth every penny if you are recording live bands. I bought mine when they were new and paid $599, they are now only $399. even at that price the mixer was paid for by the first CD I produced.

I have the Multimix 16 firewire, and also cannot use the new drivers. I am back with the very old ones - i think from april 2006 (not sure, but i'll check).
When i arm a track for recording and press record (while the new drivers and firmware are installed) the whole computer shuts down - no warning.
I used to think that this was a problem with my pc, but i just bought a new pc, and tried installing the new drivers, but still got the same result.

don't waste your money on that mixer. get a decent audio interface and a used mackie mixer. you'll be better than that thing.

Have anyone used this mixer in a live preformance (Alesis MultiMix 12 FireWire or 16)? I want to be able to record the band on location. If all I need is the older drivers for this to work, I'm thinking this is a go. Anyone else has an opinion?
