Firefox and this forum (Part 1, 529, 365)

Firefox V5 that has been working here fine, now refuses to load the forum with a "Badly formed request" error. Is it just me? I'm curently using FF V5 with IE Tab to post this. That seems okay.

Not sure what it is you're requesting, but it appears to be badly formed.

I gave up on Firefox a long time ago now. Shame really, it has some cool add-ons. The latest update I got here doesn't work with the forum at all. It used to work but was impossible to use. I just stay with IE. It works but I have trouble with YouTube vids, which is why i keep Firefox around.

Dell support had to do something (my wife called them) because our internet
PC -although it seemed to be running IE8 was not. It was running IE6 and some
sites like NI wouldn't let it on- message to upgrade browser...
They "fixed" it good. Now it's IE8 and posted here is a nightmare. Numerous reloads to get
funtions like posting but also IE8 messages that it can't connect.

I installed Firefox and all I get is little boxes. It's uninstalled now.

    Here's what I don't understand ...

You're willing to use FF5 (It's 13 versions behind) ... but you won't use FF3.6 which works perfectly without having to use the IE Tab.

    I just don't get it.

I'm sorry to hear FF5 stopped working FBB. I'm still using FF3.6.28 and don't have a single problem. I did switch for a while and use the IE Tab, but there was something about it that didn't work right that I didn't discover until I used it for a few days. Can't remember what it was now, but I ended up switching back.

Every text formatting function works, all my icons stay visible when I zoom in and out, I can reply to people properly. The Search function on the forum doesn't work, but that's something Cake did, nothing to do with browsers.

Maybe you can give it a try just for kicks and giggles and see if it works for you.

Here's a link to the Windows download page for FF3.6.28. I'm assuming it's the En-GB one you want, but I wasn't sure so I didn't link directly to the file.

Hope this helps in some small way.

    Good luck,

    Bub.

Hi Bub, I probably didn't make this part clear but FF V5 has just stopped working this morning. I don't normally use IE Tab with it, I have that installed for my mobile phone operators site that also throws a wappy with FF. Up until a few hours ago it has been working perfectly.

I don't really want to roll back to 3.6 as there's a couple of add ons that would then go south. I'll give it another 24 hours to see if it changes. I may well goto Chrome but even with that I get the odd part of the forum not working properly, adding images or links IIRC, can't remember now.

I was compelled to update Adobe Flash a few days ago.  I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Glad to hear it's working again.

Yeah, it's up to 18 now. The latest one works good, it's too much of a pain to have two FF versions now. It used to be you could have two different versions running, but you can't now. The first one to open overrides the second one.

I just use FF3.6.28 for here, and the limited browsing I do elsewhere I use the stock IE that came with Windows 7. It seems to work wherever I want to go and do.

Thanks Bub but I spoke to soon, FF (any version) this morning is refusing to load any website other than in IE Tab..... I'm now on Chrome having discovered that throwing the laptop out the window doesn't fix the problem.  Made me feel better though.

Er..... rewind....... router reboot has fixed all existing FF problems. Strange how whatever it was only affected FF and not IE or Chrome. Perhaps it is my month for computer misery, I daren't start X2 up now.....
