Firewire Repeater

I am looking at various audio interfaces and am considering a few that connect via firewire. I have about 20 -25 feet I would like to go. The max firewire cable length is about 15'. I have seen firewire repeaters and wondered if there is any problem with using one of these? Would I experience latency issues with this? The other option is I rethink my room configuration.

Latency is not the problem, we are talking digital audio here, it will either work or not work. What I would expect to happen if it does not is that you would get pops and clicks or driver errors, it would not be "slower" in any way it will either operate at full speed or fail. It's worth a try, there is a good chance it will work. In fact, I would try a normal extension cable first to see if it works. Better yet try to find a place that will sell you a 25 foot cable.

Even a basic firewire hub will work for this. I used one to run about 25 feet and not a single problem with the audio performance.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot with the longest cable I can get and go from there.

I've done video over a 25 foot cable and it worked just fine between the built in firewire on my Intel motherboard and a ADS Pyro AV. That should be more data then you will be doing. Take care to keep the cable away from AC lines or transformers.
