Firewire cards.

Hi I'm in the market for a firewire card as i have just purchased a fa-66.

My question is, Do i get a PCIe card or is a PCI card sufficient for Firewire 400?

Are there any other reasons why i should choose PCIe over PCI?

Thanks guys
John.

Choose a quality TI chipset Firewire controller.
You'll achieve the same performance with either a PCI or PCIe unit.

Choose the controller (PCI vs. PCIe) based on what works best with your current config.
IOW, if you need the PCIe slots for UAD2 cards/etc, then go with a PCI controller.
Or... if you have plenty of PCIe slots... go with a PCIe unit... as it'll have a longer shelf-life.

    This Jim,

Wise advice, I think I shall opt for a PCI card if there are no performance gains to be had.

    thanks.

I have read that the combo cards are not good. The usb/firewire or the firewire 400/800 combos in some cases have caused problems.Jim probably knows more about this than me.
