First Post "Stay With Me"

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6634579

This is a loose cover of a Brett Michaels solo project. Great lyrics, I am just starting with home recording and looking for criticisms and pointers. I have lurked in these forums for some time and have learned quite a bit. But, as the saying goes, if you stop learning you stop living.
Looking foward to your responses

Not familiar with the original tune.

But this is nicely played and sung and recorded well.

I'm getting a bit of essing on the vocals but only enough to suspect it's been mangled on the way to becoming an .mp3

That aside a well rounded contrib. Well done.

Jon: thank you for the compliments. I do not have a pop filter on my mic so I have compensated by raising it above my mouth to help with the "essing". This is not a very familiar song so I am not surprised you have not heard it. However, once I listened to the lyrics the first time I realized what a gem it was. I just could not help from trying it myself.

    Thanks again.

Rob, Thanks for posting...enjoyed the song although you sounded a bit set back in the mix....also try workin the song w/ a click track for a change in pace...at first it's ackward but in the long term it will be helpful.

I have never recorded with a click track before but I could see how it would be helpful. I did add a touch of reverb so that could be why I am back in the mix. Perhaps if I were to reduce the reverb it would bring it out more? I'm still learning the mixing stuff so any comments are much appreciated.

Nicely sung. You have a good voice for the genre.

Not familiar with the original either. I think a bit of de-essing would be in order. You can try a low pass filter and cut the SSS of the vox with out a huge inpact on the overall vocal flavor. But then again, sometimes SSs sound ok in a song, and in this its not actually that distracting. It sound like a live jam.

    Cheers

fox: I just learned what a "filter" is for. I will try it out and see what I come up with. So, it is high pass filter for low freq. and low pass filter for high freq. right? Thanks for the listen and kind words.

Nice guitar sound & I agree on the vox too..nice job.... I think a click track would smooth out the speed...that seems to hesitate in a few places.

Thanks Hacker, I will try and work with a click track and see how the next one comes out.
