Keep trying, stratman. In a pinch you could always resort to a vague rant. Those have been winning entries in the past.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

You have a right to post as dumb a question as you want. Long years of service have paid for it! Seriously, there really is no such thing as a dumb question. It may seem dumb to you but it may help someone else.

Hi stratman70. In preferences under file>audio data, make sur u have record bit depth set to 24 bit. It seems the render bit depth is already at 24 bit.

Hope this helps.

He's got too many posts for a vague rant.  You can't go on one unless you have 5 posts or less.

Fine...the question was: why are vocal recordings 16 bit? Why are guitar tracks 16 bit? All softsynth tracks are 24 bit...per my settings. There ya go..Happy now for those that that thought my post #3 wasn't a fair and honest answer.

Not embarrassed at all Stratman! Did the record/render setting solve your issue?

On a side note rezab in this thread may have just given the world it's first tangible evidence of real psychic ability

I replied to him in post #14. It has been set to 24 forever, well years anyway. Both places. The reason I removed the original question is because it seems like after all these years (it's a lot more than the 2006 in my signature) I should know the answer to this. Seems like something that should be blatantly obvious.
Just gets me when people have to jump in and make jokes. I explained in  post #3 why I removed the question. That should have been the end of it.

Anyway, than you for looking

Re: First dumb question for December 2016 - 2016/12/01 22:35:26 (permalink)
There have been times when people asked what they thought was a "dumb" question, answered themselves, and asked to have the thread deleted. I've encouraged them not to because as far as I can tell, if one person asks a question, there are other people who have the same question.

Then again it's possible to ask questions that seem dumb, but then they open up a discussion that provides all kinds of useful information.

As to the smarta** answers, I don't think they were mean-spirited. The OP and post #2 seemed to indicate a sense of humor and people picked up on that.

If you want to recalibrate the bar for "stupid," by all means watch the movie Idiocracy. You'll never think a question is stupid again.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Project this morning was\is fine, all 24bit. I need to re-record the 16bit tracks I found and move on. The 3 projects I looked at were older projects so I guess at some point in time I switched guitar and vocal to 16bit. Why I have no idea.
This thread certainly was enlightening though.
for those that tried to help, thank you........
