First project with X1 - Piece of cake!

With all the mixed reviews on this forum I'm happy to say my first project went off without a hitch! Sonar X1 was solid, no real hiccups at all. I actually purchased about a month ago, but I have been building a new PC, so other than just fooling around with it I had not done anything serious. But, after installing all updates I found none of the crashes or odd behavior I have read about. I did see a few things that struck me as odd, but 2 of those were me - not the software. And the 3rd I'm still curious about (will post another thread on that).

Part of my success may be my system, I have built a rock solid computer (so far anyways) with quality parts, based a lot on Scott's suggestions. I have to believe that has a lot to do with it.

Anyhow, I just wanted to chime in and say that all is well! I'm not in any way presuming other's issues are not real and no doubt frustrating. But I did want to say that has not been my experience. Hopefully down the road I will still feel the same way. After all, this is only one project, but it was a pretty big one. And, just so others know, this was a project I started on my old system (8.5) and imported into X1. I have read some have had more issues when doing that.

And thanks to everyone's help (including the forum search feature - that thing is my best friend!)

Are you recording mostly audio or are you doing extensive midi with softsynths ?

Almost entirely audio. The only exceptions on this session are EZDrummer (split into multitrack) and Reason (with 2 instruments). All together I had 37 tracks, with 27 of those being audio. Plus 3 busses. I also had 10 tracks that were archived and hidden, but I guess those don't really count. Tons of pluggins and a descent amount of automation. Other than a few things that I just have to figure out as I go, it all worked together pretty well.

Whenever we do extensive midi editing X1 starts to act up and needs rebooting. Otherwise X1 has been rock solid and working great.

I indeed did run into a few strange MIDI things - nothing like crashing or anything. Just moments when I expected Sonar to do one thing and it did something else. However, I would call it light MIDI editing and - as I'm not much of a MIDI guy - I'm fully expecting the real issues to lie with me and not Sonar. But time will tell. You're right, though - it was very solid handling audio, other than a few things I'm still trying to figure out. Again - probably me, not the program.
