First song using Platinum - The Long Road Home

Hi everyone,

I've just finished a new track using Sonar Platinum. All guitars were recorded with the POD HD500X straight into the desk. Bass was a Bass POD.

Acoustic was recorded with an SE2200 mic.

Cheers,

Peter.

So very nice! Great playing and sound. Love the mix! Thanks for the post!

I used my HD 500x on a gig at a Steak and Seafood restaurant last night. Somehow I deleted my  clean setting when I hit the channel switch  half way thru the gig. The band leader after the gig commented how I was "rockin out" but it was just my crunch setting.
I really need to do a project in Platinum too. I've been so busy playing I haven't had time but I have a tune a waiting

I liked that A LOT.  Not overplayed with guitar gymnastics, that made the melodies great ones.

Beautiful music well played and recorded.  Got chills in some places.  Your build was very subtle.  I loved this one!!

    Thanks everyone.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've now finished the intro to go along with the track.

Probably hugely "Pink Floyd" influenced but it came out well.

Pink Floyd indeed! Righteous stuff, this. Your mix is very well balanced. I thought I heard some flanging going on, either on your acoustic guitars panned, or on the cymbals? I think it was on your acoustic guitars. It was pretty subtle, no biggie, just wondering if it was intentional or some kind of mp3 resolution thing that the internet does sometimes.

Excellent piece, well conceived, well realized.

    cheers,

    Thanks for the comments, Tom.

It could be the acoustic gtrs as I used the Voxengo Sound Delay on the acoustic to give a "doubling" effect. The cymbals are programmed so I don't think it could be from them. You've got great ears.

I will replace the programmed drums with the real drums soon and then I won't be so lazy and I'll actually play the acoustic parts twice instead of using plug ins to double them.

Thanks for taking the time to listen.

    Much appreciated.

Wow. Listening to this now and lovin' it! I'm also hearing some Knopfler on some of the softer parts. Sounds great on my computer speakers which, I guess, says something good about the mix.

Excellent ! Great guitar sound and playing, it kind of all jumps out at you and yet is laid back and dynamic all at once, which is a sign of great quality. Is there a subtle vocal type pad in there too ?

@The Kiosk Project - Thanks for your comments too. Yes, there is a kind of "vocal" patch in there. I think I used a patch from the Rapture soft synth. I love that synth.

    Peter,

Not much more you could do to improve this tune my friend!  It's dang-near perfect to my ears.  Great tones and style.  Mix is spot on to me.

Is the clean guitar a Strat?  (Love the LP in your pic.)  I think the POD records well.  I have their UX-2 module (many same sounds as POD I think) and I have come to love the convenience of it as well as the good tones you can coax out of it with some tweaking.

    Great job.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the comments tbosco,

Yes most of the cleans are the Strat. The slightly overdriven tones are also the Strat. The rest is my Les Paul.

I do intend to replace the programmed drums with real ones but that's about it. I would normally also replace the guitars and mic a real amp etc but I really don't think that I could improve on the tone.

I am so impressed with this HD500X. Having so many tonal options tends to inspire lots of new ideas.

Besides the excellent playing and arrangement, you make an excellent endorsement for Line 6.  I've been considering the  HD500x for some time, and I'm afraid this may push me over the edge.

    Hi Lyn,

    Thanks for your comments.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with the HD500X. I'm not sure if you've seen my demo video on the unit. I'm putting together a series of videos about the HD500X and have uploaded Part 1 about a month ago.

I'll be uploading Part 2 by the weekend.

    Hope you enjoy,

Not overly crazy about the drums, but who cares - the tune is great!

Love the guitar tone and melodies.  Real smoooth...  even the over-driven parts.  Really enjoyable.  The backing tracks support work nicely as well.   And the mix sounds right.   Love the sparse parts with clean guitar intermingled with the fuller arrangements with over-driven guitar.  Dynamics are working.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the comments. Regarding the drums - Yes, they are merely "scratch" tracks at the moment. When I can get the drummer into the studio I will be replacing them with the real thing. I'm not a fan of programmes when one has the facility to use real instruments. I never go into any detail when using programmed drums because I know that they will be replaced. Total waste of time.

I'm glad that you liked the overall vibe of the song though.

When I've tracked the drums I'll be uploading a video of the session in it's entirety.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
