First test with Sonar X1c - Lady Theremine

Hey all!

This is my first track with Sonar X1c! It's just put together with Presets from Sampletank Free and an Amplitube Solo/Free (or whatever it's called) patch I threw together. It's nothing serious but I thought it ended up sounding quite nice and wanted to share it with you all

Enjoy!

    Hi Marius

This sounds great, the ethereal passages are a nice touch, and the guitar tone is excellent. I might even bring that up a little to really hammer home the louder passages.

And I think you've got enough going on here for it to be well worth working it up into a 'full' tune at some stage.

    Good stuff.

    Hey Steve!

Funny you say that. My father told me to make something more of it too so I might have to roll up my sleves It will be difficult because I have to be carefull not to exhaust the vocal. Without that, the song is pretty much nothing. But I'd hate to have it made purely by preset samples from a free plugin. This is an ok example but I'd create the beats and synth sounds from scratch, trying to match what's in this track already. Maybe that will give room for louder guitars as well!

Yeah, the amplitube Free thing really worked with the included modules. It's a pretty decent plug IMO actually and I might expand it a little for when I'm bored with GR4.

    Thanks for your kind comment.

Sounds very good. I was able to hear the guitar only a little. It really fit in well and should have been brought up a little more IMO.

Yeah, I found that the guitar cluttered up the sound a bit when turned up. Now they function as a moving pad of sorts. However, if I do more with the song I definitely will prioritize pushing the guitars to the front

    thanks for your kind comment;)

Cool stuff, Marius.  Definitely sounding like it has enough going for it to move it 'out of the lab' and into production, so to speak.  Use of that vocal patch as an instrument was quite an interesting touch.  Like the others, I could hear the guitar coming up and/or a bass going in to add to the drive.

    Thanks Philz!

That vocal patch is like a hyprid mono synth and vocal sound. I thought it sounded crazy when pushed to the extreme like that. Out of all the sounds in SampleTank Free, I thought 4 was usable, one was good - and that's the vocal patch

Guitars will come up - and a bass of course. Just need to decide on a synth bass, real bass or both;) I just have to make sure it doesn't start sounding like a Rammstein wannabe tune!

This is not my "thing" at all, but actually I really like it! I wouldn't have the first clue how to record a track like this, but I wish I did. The vocal is amazing, and the whole thing grooves along beautifully.

Great job - like it even better the second time of listening.

@mgh - Thanks for your compliment!! Colab would be cool! I'll be severly busy for about a month now but after that, I'm game! @Julien - Glad you like it;) I'll be pushing the guitars to the front in the next version. I've been geting PMs and e-mails and everything about this tune so I have to make something more of it;) @Marshall - Thanks for the compliment. If you like it even more when listening to it the second time then something is right about it! The aim is always to make something that stays interesting

Well... quite sure. If I managed to sing like that by, say, take a massive kick to the nuts so hard that I sounded like that then I probably would have been pretty dazed and unable to remember recording it! But in fact, it's all sampletank. and I am pressing the keys;)

Sounds really good man.  I listened to everything on your page.  Your a pretty versatile  musician there.  There all really good but I dug the classical and metal tune the most.  That metal tune is really groovin.  The vocals are awesome, is that you singing?

Norway huh?  I'm Norwegian.  I mean my great grandparents came from there.  I always think about going there It looks really beautiful there and I hate the summer, love fall and winter.  And Scandinavia is where all the great melodic metal bands come from in my opinion.  I love Evergrey, (older) In Flames, Illdisposed, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Dimmu Borgir to name a few.

Hey MetalTek! Thanks for your compliment. I llike a bit of versatility. If I can do different types of music I realized I could do more music. And I love all kinds of music anyway. It's me singing. I've been doing that for years in several configurations. So you're a Norwegian in the right place;) He he, cool! You should come over and check it out. I hate living here, but it's home for now;) I can't stand the winter, late fall and that's what we have most of here. And when the weather is nice, it's usually pretty bad. I'm just glad I live in Oslo and not in a coast cities. It's terrible there! But I enjoy the mountains and a nice summer day in a fjord is very pleasant. You seem to be leaning towards the Swedish metal with your examples there. I much prefer that my self and In Flames and Arch Enemy are some of my favourite bands. Fun fact: last saturday I was watching Sepultura here in Oslo with Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir and Athera from Susperia Anyways, thank you for your comment, I appreciate you taking time to listen to my ramblings.

    I won't deny that

It's funny that the tiny metal scene we have here make such an impact on the world and metal heads every where. And many of the Norwegians who preach their metal around the globe are friends of mine or people I see regularly

I won't be going to Hole in The Sky I'm afraid... Very sad about that but I just can't make time for it.
