First time posting a song

This is my first time posting a song, mainly because you guys are way ahead of me in mixing and mastering.

But, From the forum, and other resources, thought I would post this one to get feed back, on the mix, and the mastering.

All honest feedback is greatly appreciated. I did forget to fade out the song on this file, so that is something I still have to do.

This is an older song of mine, that I remixed from info gained here, and elsewhere.

Equipment used....
   Sonar 8.5.3
        Plugins
Guitar Rig 4 for the bass guitar
              Gnx3 for guitar
               Electric Keys for organ
                Channel Tools
                 Boost 11
Jamstix 3 for drums (using drumagog on kick and snare)
Sonar Compressors and delays and EQ
                 Percussion Strip

It is a Robin Trowerish type of song.

Red Sky In The Morning

Pentium 4,
Vista Premium 64 bit
Dual Quad
8 gigs of ram
Delta 44
Sonar Producer 8.5.3

    Listening as I write.

It sounds just a little all too wide, nothing seem to hold the centre field, possibly like one channel is out of phase.  Not really picking up much of a kick, ah just caught a bit of kick which appears to be only on the left channel.

Nice tune mix needs a little more work.

    Thanks for sharing.

Nice playing and tones.  Agree with the wookster about being too wide.  I'd prefer the lead dead center.

    Sums it up nicely.

I might turn down the reverb just a tad as well.

This can be a cool tune when you get it under control a bit better.

    Reverb is easy to abuse.

Heavy reverb on a guitar is kind of OK at times, but almost never on the whole mix.

The drums and bass should be pretty dry with very little reverb on them at all and should be much closer to center on the mix.

For a first post, this is not bad. Now you got a few ears on it and the consensus is similar, so there you have it..... now, have a go at fixing it and repost.

Sort of had a Floydish vibe for me.  Pretty good effort for a first (or a second or third).  I enjoyed the tune.  Nice work.

good tune..i know what these guys are saying about being wide and the reverb..but i think its the feel for the song its got a good laid back echoish sound..i can be cleaned up a bit..after a long time we become adjusted to our own mix and lose track of the spectrum..love the feel of the guitars man.great job

I can't tell ya how all your comments make me feel.. so let me put it this way

By reverb, I am assuming you mean the delay, as there are no reverbs used in this... except maybe the patch on the gn3 for the guitar I think.

In channel tools I used increase width, maybe I should adjust that a tad, to bring things center...

Again thanx for the input and ears.

Floyd???   hmmmm.. I hear trower, but funny you guys should say that. I have like 3 other songs that people say remind them of floyd... I myself don't hear it.. but.....

Another one for the too wide camp I'm afraid. Lacks a little focus the way it is, but should be easy enough to fix. Good otherwise though - certainly nothing to be shy about here.

I dunno......I hear a Pink Robin Floyd (Bridge of Sighs) Trower sound here...

I suppose if the drums & bass were to be centered (giving it a foundation in the placement), the floating guitar might work out well. Other than that, this was nicely done.....trippy!!!

Ya, for me there's a general rule about keeping bass kick snare centered. I don't mind all the delay, I think it's appropriate for the guitar but maybe pulled back a bit on the organ. Nice levels. I might try a slightly cleaner tone on the guitar and less "fuzz" This tune is right up my alley, good job.

I think a width widener might gave a similar effect as reverb,.  Basically more spacey, less defined.

Just a thought. Are you widening the entire mix or just individual tracks? Widening an entire mix can cause a loss in definition especially in kick/bass relationship. Try widening individual tracks such as keys and guits rather than the master buss. Again, just a thought

As stated above, bring everything back to center and start from there, track by track.

Please stick with this though, as it was really sweet and i enjoyed it a lot.

Made me feel very lazy after hearing it mind.

I would say more Floyd than Trower.  Drums seemed a little "too far back or not present".  They could be enhanced a bunch to make this song go up another level.  I like it and feel "comfortable " listening to it.  You know, a realy heavy drummer could make this smoke.  What you have works "with a little work" but a HOT drummer could put it over the edge.  IMHO, of course.
