First track from upcoming melodic rock album.

Hi everyone,

I did upload this track awhile ago. The track was done in Sonar 6 but have since remixed and remastered it in Sonar X1 using the new toys etc. I'm far happier with this mix than the previous one.

It's a song thats in two parts but have made it a single track on Soundcloud.

Please be aware that it's about 8 - 9 mins in length. Part 1 is instrumental with part 2 being the vocal track.

It's entitled "Cast in Stone" The last time it was uploaded it tended to develop into a debate about global warming etc. Let me just say that the global warming was just an idea that made a good topic to write about. Nothing more, nothing less.

Gtrs: Gibson Les Paul Std, Ibanez Artwood acoustic
Keys: Hammond C3 with Leslie, Prophet One, Roland D50, Roland Digital Piano, various soft synths
Drums: Gretsch Catalina
Bass: Fender Jazz

Hope you enjoy,

Cheers,

Peter.

Nice job!  I like the melodies and chord changes.  It is very well recorded and mixed.  Great vocals and guitar tones.  I also really like the sound of your kick drum and drums in general.  I was wanting to hear a little more reverb or something on the snare.

    Nice job... it sounds good.

The song has the feel in places of King Crimson ...and a few other influences are evident.

Epic! Excellent track peter, beautifully arranged. What was your signal chain on the Les Paul here? Love that creamy tone in the first section.

Hi Peter, this sounds really good, excellent guitar work, interesting arrangement. 2:50 to 3:39 could use another guitar solo ; )

This is an epic piece of work.  It would have fit in many band's repertoire in the 70's.  The overall production is super!  Bravo!

This is overall an excellent production. As others mentioned it has a very 70s prog sound (Kansas also comes to mind). The problem with retro is, if you want to sell, it also needs to be modern and done by the young. Sadly, this is really firmly stuck in the past. The tones are archaic and are just not heard much in rock today. This piece is disappointing not because there is anything wrong with it (on the contrary it is pretty outstanding), its just 40 years too late.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the comments and feedback. It's much appreciated.

@jamesg, the gtr went through an MI Audio Crunchbox into a Marshall TSL. It was miced with an SM57 into the desk.

@foxwolfen - Quite frankly I don't see the track and production being a "problem" because of it's influences. If you think that then bands like "Spocks Beard", "The Flower Kings", "Neal Morse" "Transatlantic" etc might as well pack up and call it a day. They all use "archaic" instruments as you refer to them but are also selling albums and making a living. Yes, no one is gonna get rich doing this kind of music but if you can fill a venue and sell lots of cds playing the music that you love is that really such a "problem"?

We've released 5 albums to date and have sold enough to carry on with what we do.

I record many artists that want to sound "modern and trandy". Do I enjoy the style of music? Not always but I still do it. I'm involved with a bunch of musicians that play, write and record for the love of doing it. There is a nice healthy resurgence in "prog" at the moment and I hope it continues.

We're sick and tired of the manufactured pop BS that gets shoved down our throats on formatted radio, shopping malls and tv as many of our followers are.

You say that it's forty years too late...well thats your opinion and you're entitled to it. I beg to differ.

@Dan, thanks for the comment. I will certainly keep you posted.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Very much so..I've been following the career of Dave Gregory (ex-XTC) lately and he's in two (!) prog bands, 'Tin Spirits', and 'Big Big Train'.

There's also a resurgence of 'classic' sounding rock, with people like 'Black Country Communion' and 'Rival Sons'.

Absolutely! Now, I'm not sure it isn't because us older guys now have the time to listen to it though. My kids still don't really appreciate it, ha ha.

Great job on this. I sort of skipped forward as I'm more into quick and to the point pop songs. But this was very well done.
I did feel that the mix needed some more ambience/production however.
The singer is very good. The concept is very good. well, actually I didn't quiet get the concept but I felt it in my own way, which is good.

    Very well done.

    Excellent!!!

Everything sounds great. I love how it goes from section to the next. The singer reminds me one of Joe Lynn Turner.

    Hi, Peter,

Absolutely dynamite work on this tasty piece of fresh sounding progressive rock!

Great songwriting, excellent playing and killer guitar tones, fantastic vocals and a punchy, pro sounding mix.  I also love how the tasteful keyboard work thickens the overall texture of the nice clean mix.

Super job on this, best wishes!
