First try with X1...I like the sound.

Id been saving my X1 tryout until X1b was finished.
I loaded the box #1 cd only and installed X1a, and X1b updates before opening X1. The install went without a hitch and the program booted right up (had to use open as administrator).

I recorded a simple country song 6 tracks and vocal by myself this morning. Exported as MP3 and uploaded to my website. Everything worked without any crashes or glitches. (note I recorded all audio without using Vvocal or midi) I record audio mainly, and only use midi for pads/piano/organ etc). Drums are Roland set of electric drums patched in as audio.

Im impressed with Prochannel and how clean the audio sounds to me. Im sure I will experience some bugs as I get into X1, but for now Im well pleased .

My first X1 recording is here if anyone is interested in hearing it. Click on Dont Rock The Jutebox...warning Country

Cool song, I dig the vibe.

It's refreshing to hear a story about X1 with praise instead of complaint

    Good one Jeff.

I too mostly record audio only with X1. So I have not experienced the problems others have with it.

    to Eternal...thanks.

Sonar may be an overkill for my needs, but I see no need to change. I seem to hear a much better overall "sound" with X1. I have no idea why, maybe be Prochannel Fx.
Those of us that record mainly live audio should be just fine with X1. Not much need for midi manipulation, audio snap and Vvocal....we just record another take.

    Have a great weekend,
    Jeff

OK thats all well and good but how the heck did you work with it because its so hard for users to figure it out? How on earth did you record? Don't yah know it can't be done? Nothing is where it must be for anyone to get it to do anything? Or haven't you heard?

Jeff great to hear you are doing well with it.

Jeff, I posted a similar comment a couple of months ago.  The first song that I produced completely with X1 and using almost exclusively Pro Channel; when I posted the song on my site, I was getting responses from my friends asking if I had changed DAW, or gotten new software of some type.  The overall reaction was that my music was suddenly much cleaner and clear; the tone was superb.  I had reacted by saying that I had just up dated Sonar to the latest version.  I am really pleased with the results I am getting with X1 and especially with Pro Channel.

I am about 85% done with another song and I shared it with a couple of close and trusted songwriter friends of mine.  I needed to get some feed back on the lyrics.  They both wanted to focus on the sound quality again.

    Hey Jeff,
I was on your Artist Management page and was taken by the music on that too [takes a few seconds to start playing]. Is that one of yours? Beautiful melody. How can I get a copy of your music?
    Thanks,

    Funny John,
I guess ignorance is bliss in my case. Im one of those none technical guys that just turns knobs until it sounds ok to me. My recording chain is pretty simple..audio in,set level, push record button..if it aint right do it over. ha
I always use a reference CD of a song I like and try to copy that sound.

BTW...Im an old El Paso boy..have friends in Dallas.
Im starting to take a stab at songwriting since retiring. Im too old and ugly to play gigs. ha.
I agree with your comments about X1 being clean and clear, which is what I want for songwriter demos. The "lyrics and melody" should be the focus with the music "supporting" the song...simple arrangements.
    Good luck with your songs,
    Jeff

    Thanks Mike,

Jeff you need to update your specs in your signature.

The way you described recording is the way its been done ever since we had mics and preamps. It worked for them it should work for us.

    Have fun Jeff.

    Thanks Ben...made my day! ha

Most of the songs are written by others including the one on the artist page...wish I had written that...a major hit in the country market.

Im going to spend more time writing, now that Ive retired.
I think we like the same type of sound. I wish I had something to send to ya, but dont right now.
    Hopefully I will soon.
Thanks again and good luck with your music and SonarPlus..you've helped a lot of us and we appreciate it.

    Hi Jeff
I 've visited your site and listen your songs : nice work ! I like the sound and personally I appreciate your voice recorded without delay effect like in "Acid country". I find the sound is homogeneous and cannot evaluate the difference between "Don't rock the Jukebox" (recorded with X1) and the others (apparently recorded with 8.5 (?)

I love when you say : " Im one of those none technical guys that just turns knobs until it sounds ok to me. My recording chain is pretty simple..audio in,set level, push record button..if it aint right do it over. " I think you are right and  there is nothing better than simplicity and intuitiveness
Personally, I'm going to plunge into the MAO world  (before I recorded with a mere multitrack recorder roland VS 2400 : it was very good but very limited concerning edition, effects...). Now I will receive a complete configuration with Sonar and a VS 700 system, with a lot of virtual instrument (spectrasonics, East west, Motu Ethno 2...) and I wonder if I have not made a mistake with such a lot package, and  best, Just recording audio with my Tyros 2 and Motif XS into Sonar (?)
I think the fact of recording audio should remove a lot of complications concerning midi programmation, internal installation configurations and overall stability.
I will receive my system with Sonar X1(patch b) and 8.5 installed ? Would you advise me to directly start with X1 ? Do you think it's much better concerning the sound and stable enough ?
Do you think that Pro Channel make the difference ? I see you have the very appreciated UAD effects, has the Pro Channel equivalent quality ?(I was planning to buy some Nomad Factory plugs-in which seem to have less consuption CPU))

Thank you very much for your attention
    Pierre

Jeff, that pretty much describes how I got back into song writing.  About 8 years ago I changed my focus from gigging to studio.  I am pretty old school as well; track it right on the way in, less mixing on the backside.  Simple is great.

    PIERRE...

I'm probably the "least" qualified on this forum to "advise" you Pierre.
Ive used 8.5 with no issues since it was introduced and only used X1 for one recording. Many are having problems with X1 and praise the reliability of 8.5. To be safe, if you are working with clients, you may want to start with 8.5...and experiment with X1. All new software will be praised by some while others will have issues.

As for my needs, I like X1 so far and have not experienced any problems with recording "audio".

Thanks for the kudos...and good luck on your recordings.

I think most UAD products emulate analog equipment very well. Understand that UADs plugins add "color" to your sound, emulating various analog equipment. You may like or dislike the sound.

I use the UAD LA2A compressor, 1073 eq, and their reverb (forgot the model number  160?) It's to early for me to compare UAD with Prochannel. Im certain "both" will be useful to have in your Fx arsenal.

    Good luck,
