Fixes for issues using Win 7

If you're using Win7 and can't get the External Encoder Configuration Utility working

Run Sonar and associated programs accessed from Sonar, (eg Sound Forge), 'as administrator' or program settings you change may not be saved.
This applies to Sonar 32 or 64 bit programs, 8 and 8.5

Left click on the program icon for each (Sonar and eg Sound Forge)
In properties/compatibility, check 'Run this program as administrator'.

When you start programs, you might be asked if you wish to 'allow the program to make changes to your computer' Click yes
(Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Change User Control Settings to enable, disable or change the level of these warnings)

Getting third party encoder to work via the Sonar External Encoder Configuration Utility. It won't save the changes you make unless Sonar has 'Run this program as administrator' checked in properties/compatibility

Getting the third party Lame encoder to work:
Lame is a 32 bit program. It must reside in C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\
The Sonar set up program 32 and/or 64bit, should create a set of folders in C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\ for any 32 bit plugins etc it might use.
Find C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\ If it doesn't exist, make the folders yourself
Add a Lame folder. You should now have C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Lame
Find where you saved the Lame download.
Copy or unzip lame.exe and lame_enc.dll into C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\External Encoders\Lame

Handy Lame configurations:
Friendly Name: Lame Medium Quality Stereo 96 112
Description : Lame Medium Quality Stereo 96 112
Path : C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\External Encoders\Lame
Command line: Lame -b 96 -m s -q 0 -c -V 4 -B 112 --tt "%T" --verbose --ta "%A" --ty "2012" --tc "%C" %I %O
YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHANGE THE YEAR --ty "2012" to whatever for copyright
***********************
Friendly Name : Lame High Quality Stereo 128 320
Description: Lame High Quality Stereo 128 320
Path : C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\External Encoders\Lame
Command line : Lame -b 128 -m s -q 0 -c -V 4 -B 320 --tt "%T" --verbose --ta "%A" --ty "2012" --tc "%C" %I %O
YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHANGE THE YEAR --ty "2012" to whatever for copyright

You DO NOT have to start Sonar to use the External Encoder Configuration Utility. The utility is a 32bit program so Sonar 64 bit installation should place any 32bit programs under C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities. Find EncoderConfig.exe
Left click on the program icon
In properties/compatibility, check 'Run this program as administrator'.
Make a shortcut. Drag it to your desk top or wherever
You can now use it to add, change, External Encoder Configurations without opening your Sonar program
