Flame on...I'm excited..
and honored. Steve is letting me build him a guitar.
I know....I haven't finished Grants...I'm waiting on a part
and it should mail out soon so until then I've started on Steve's.
I said I'd post a pic when it played and ready to ship, and I will.
I'm very excited for a number of reasons but the fact that this will
be going to the UK and to a member that I've gained much admiration
and respect for thru the years....well that's just cool and hard to beat.
And to think I've had that pleasure for two other builds....unreal.
Steve has been great in describing what he'd like in a guitar. The
cool thing (to me) is that it will really be a combination of Fender and Gibson.
I'll point that out as the build goes. And his requests are taking me to
new areas of building. It's going to be a fun challenge. My sincere thanks
to you Steve for letting me do this.
I've made the first step in routering the top. What is so cool and kind of rare
is this top is one piece of flame maple. Since it's the first step and a very
cool piece of wood I decided to announce the build with it.
Normally this piece could easily make two guitar tops and would be a two
piece top. The Strat has a 1/2" eased edge and I wanted the flames to wrap
around...I hope it looks like I imagine...we'll see.
I'm not experienced enough to know what grade of wood this is but I can tell
you from working with it- it's sure enough tone wood...man it just sings when
just sanding on it....crazy cool.
The UPS guy asked my wife if everything was alright....he didn't have to deliver
a package the other day...lol...I sure wish there was one stop shopping for
guitar stuff !
