Flipping a video 90 degrees????
So I'm learning my new Samsung Galaxy II. When I take a video in the phones upright (like I would talk on it) the video is 90 degrees counter clockwise. Last night I took vids with the phone in the 90 degree clockwise position. They playback fine. I only have one video that is worth saving that plays back in the 90 degree counter clockwise position. How can I flip it (on the cheap)?

Hi, Are you suggesting that Bapu's eyesight is skewed and is 90 degrees off its mark?
As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

Quicktime Pro may do it. That's cheap. Just about any video editor will do it if you set up the project with the proper dimensions and then rotate the imported video. The gotcha is that the compression math and color spacing usually, but not always, works differently on the horizontal and vertical axis so when you re render in the new aspect you may see some noticeable artifacts pop out that were masked effectively in the initial file. There are probably some free solutions... I have existing workflows so I don't know much about all that is available. Hopefully some one will offer a great idea. best regards, mike spelling

Well you have me curious Ed. I use Sony Vegas and don't know if it will rotate video. I know I can put a filter on it and do it but one button rotate? What software are you using?

I bought Vegas. I was looking at several others and everyone on the forum berated me, called me names (like "becan-less") and generally made fun of me until I bought vegas and left the others alone. it was kind of like grade school. however, I have never tried what you want to do in vegas, either, but Shirley you can.

Ed, I sure recommend getting Vegas + DVD not just Vegas. You won't regret it. Even if you don't use it much. It is fantastic to have such a great program at hand. It will become useful for audio as well. Sony takes video and sound very serious. With Vegas you can do whatever your little heart desires with that video. If not... RTFM.

Let's say you have a 720p video from your phone. Let's say you have Vegas. Create a new project with custom parameters rather than a preset. Set the project dimensions to 720 wide x 1280 high. Import the video. Find a rotate function... which I assume Vegas has becasue every other video editor does. Rotate the video. Export (re -render) the video. Done. I do stuff like then when using video snippets for composting layers of motion picture visual effects... I rarely export "vertical" video for final output but I use rendered clips like this within a compositor (After Effects) and it works good. The thing you have to do is get beyond the preset project and export parameters and use custom dimensions and some programs hide these to make stuff seem easier for routine users. best regards, mike

I don't know...can't tell what version that is and I stopped at 8. If you go with an older version at least get 8. Here's 11.

When I stopped updating Reece they named with a "+" to include DVD Architect...apparently now they don't. I need to upgrade mine. Looks like they've made many good changes since 8.

I hate to screw up my reputation with actual help, but here's how you do it using FREE, Microsoft software that used to come with windows. Find out how to get it HERE. Then use it to rotate your video 90 degrees. I had to do this with one of the videos for our website.
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!
