Flock it...
..my wife asked, "how's my guitar tray coming, what ya doin'?" and I said I have to flock it...she heard, flock it. She's been lauging about that for days now...I love that she is so easily entertanied. Never flocked anything but all the flocking stuff has arrived so fun time this eve. Hope it works. The instructions said...if you have any reservations get a teenager to do it. I guess it's something they do in arts and crafts. I can see me going around the neighborhood trying to round up a teenager...arts in crafts in the pen I'm imagining.

I worked for a high-end Beverly Hills Designer wall covering manufacturer in the 70s (I was a printer). We produced some coverings that were flocked. After applying the "glue" to the stock (via silk screen), the stock was feed thru a machine that electrostatically charged the flock, as it dropped in on the stock, so it would stand up on end. The machine would also vibrate the stock to shake off the excess. Flock would get all over the person at the end of the machine who hung the stock on racks to dry. At the end of the shift we would say "I'm getting the flock out of here". True story.

I did some searching after seeing a kit offered at a woodworking store and learned of the "charging" method. It reminded me of powder coating without the hassle of cooking. Not unlike the powder coating equipment and material the cost for the electrostatic guns are high....for no more than I'd use them. What I'm going to use is a pump tube. I'm waiting on supper right now and decided probably best to wait until after I eat. Curious to see how it goes though and won't be long now....if supper doesn't knock me out.

I had no idea you could do that sort of thing at home... That is amazing, and it looks beautiful, Space. I have a sneaking suspi cion that we have just pinpointed the time of the addling of Bapu's brain. He must have inhaled it and now thinks in velvet. ;)

Well it's a first for me Julibee. It wasn't hard. A little messy. The kit was about 34 dollars w/shipping. A can of brown glue, brown flocking, a little glue brush and a pump tube. Probably enough to do 20 more easy. Now that I got her fixed up I'm making a smaller one for my shop table. Think it'll be good to hold all the little guitar screws etc. The instructions say, don't touch it after you spray it on....that was the hardest part LOL.

spacey Well it's flocked now. Nothing to it and I like it because I know my wife will love it. Wow! That looks flocking great Michael! You really flocked it good; flocked the heck out of it actually! What the flock are you doing this only for a hobby? You need to get the flock out of there and market these flockers!

Thank you Jan. That's a big cat! LOL Craig....you got flock down pat. :) To much fun to blow it by marketing. I made a smaller for the kid and decided to build a couple of neck boxes today. The flock looks bad because it's right after spraying. When it's dry ya brush it and it'll be smooth...get the loose stuff off. Hope ya'll enjoy them. Still deciding about hinges and feets for the neck box. The box lid is Fender scale lol. The little Tele is @ 4 1/2" x 5 1/2".
