Focusrite 18i6 or Roland Ocata Capture?
I'm looking for a newer usb 2 interface. I checked out the Focusrite......price is great for what you're getting. Soundwise, how does the Focusrite compare to the Roland? I'm currently using a Delta 66 and am betting that either of these units will be a step up sound wise. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know if you'll get any comparisons. I use the ROC and it has been a great interface so far. I can run 24/44.1 at 1.1ms latency with 48 samples. I can direct monitor with larger project if I need to. Check out the review hat harmony central.

Hi Gaffpro, I have been investigating the same thing; check my message thread in this forum. I have come to the conclusion that I am going to buy the Roland. Although I believe that the Focusrite is a good unit and would suit my needs right now I choose the Roland because of the reports of rock solid low latency that I need for my soft synths and the additional mic/line inputs that I may need in the future. Good luck.

I have the Focusrite 18i6 and so far it's been working fine with me with X1b on a Windows 7 64bit system. I suspect the Roland would be nice too - especially in working with Sonar.

I have the V-Studio 100, but have looked closely at the Roland Octa-capture. I would highly recommend it, you know it's going to work well with Sonar it has the same pre's on it as the V Studio 700 and a nice set of converters I think you can work with audio up to 192KHz. THe round trip latency you can achieve is quite low! As was previously mentioned 48 samples! I would go with the Roland Octa capture if I were getting an interface right now and didn't already have the two interfaces I do have (V-Studio 100, Tascam US 2000)

Almost every converter is good these days - and between similiar price points they are hardly worth worrying about. You have to be spending hundreds of dollars a channel more to reach that next step. I've used the Roland/Cake stuff (tho not the octa) and it all you need, sound wise. Good conversion and good preamps. I'm sure the Focusrite is just as competent. I think I'd give the Octa the nod, but that is because I know the Roland drivers work on my system w/ no problems. @

Thanks everyone...another question.....how do you think the sound ot the ROC would stack up against a Lynx or RME?

By reputation, it would be a hair or half-step below. I never did a side by side. Maybe some one else has. I did do a side by side w/ an API preamp. There was a difference, but not much. I couldn't tell the diff but the studio owner/operator said he could, esp. the high end. but this was through an SSL console and big set of Genlec's in a tuned room. The APi costs almost as much as the VS-100 itself. Unless you are renting out the studio and need the name for sales, or have the extra cash on hand, you can get a pro sound out of the octa-capture (or as close as you can technically). I don't believe there is that much difference when you factor in everything else. Would I take the lynx first? Sure, and mate it with an API or Portico or old neve or etc... . Then the RME, then the octa. Would I be OK using the Octa? sure. I use TC Konneck now, which delivers teh goods, and there are plenty of other things I am upgrading before the interface. @

Thanks AT for the advice......in any event I'm sure anything new out there is going to beat a Delta 66 anyway

Gaffpro Thanks everyone...another question.....how do you think the sound ot the ROC would stack up against a Lynx or RME? It will be lagging in regard to the converters... probably behind the Focusrite as well. Look at the converter specs in the online pdf manuals and you'll see the difference.

Gaffpro Thanks everyone...another question.....how do you think the sound ot the ROC would stack up against a Lynx or RME? Unless you have cause to purchase such items, I would save my money. The difference to the average user are nelgigible at best. Are you recording Sting, Seal, or Paul McCartney? The ROC is great in its own right. Plenty of flexibility, great drivers and 24/192 if you need it.
