Focusrite 2i4 (1st Gen) vs. Win 10 updates
I am in the process of reinstalling Sonar, etc. and getting my new pc up to snuff. I've completed up to Sonar Producer 8.5.3 and have the 2i4 up and running as far as I know. I have yet to do any recording but I have sound and all looks good in device mngr., sonar preferences, etc. Last Thursday, all my pcs (my others are still win 7) received a small update. I generally know this is coming because my main win 7 pc will bog down for about 2 days prior to the notice of updates to generally hard to do anything. My new Win 10 pc evidently gives me no notice or options but just updates. When I brought my win 10 pc (DAW) out of sleep, all the sound was gone. The light on the interface was on but the sound icon was crossed out, there was nothing in device mngr., and sonar showed no audio... After looking around a bit, I decided to just unplug the USB port and plug it back in. I don't know if that is OK, but I did it, all was back to normal with no changes of anything else I could see. Once I get everything installed, I will be moving my studio to the large living room and keeping it offline. I still have X1 - X3, all the plugins and the new new Magix Studio 14 components to go, so most of this week at my pace. So is this what I have to look forward to on my particular system? The updates will disable the port or the install or whatever it did? It's not bad once you know, but not fun when you're ready to go and have to figure out, " what now?"

Do you have fast boot set on the W10 PC? Occasionally my 2i4 will be missed on boot up and I unplug and plug back in.

Yes it is checked, I had never heard of that, good to know! I keep my pc in sleep mode rather than shutting down, so rather than win update causing this, it rather restarted my pc and that was the culprit? I did try restarting to see if that brought the audio back but it didn't. Well I'll keep a lookout if / when it happens again. Thanks so much for the info!

And make sure you don't have USB suspend set in Power/ advanced features/ USB. Disable that or USB ports go to sleep. I use a 6i6 1st Gen and never had any issues with updates shutting it off. Pretty dependable little box really.
