Focusrite Saffire 6 USB w/ Sonar?
Sorry to ask this again in another thread but it seems my E-MU 0204 USB cannot be 'fixed,' so to speak, after trying all suggestions. I am now looking for another audio interface that will hopefully not have the same problems and the Saffire 6 seems to be quite good at a fairly low price. How well does it work with Sonar X1 Producer Expanded (with Windows 7 x64 Home Premium), and how good is it in general? Has anybody who has one/has had one experience problems with it similar to mine (BSOD's, noticeable latency)? Cheers

It will work with Sonar however because your system is a little on the slower side you may not be able to get great latency values. I've managed to get my latency values down to about 8ms roundtrip with the Scarlett but my system is a powerhouse. I'm thinking you'll be able to get around 12 ms Roundtrip at best and if you were doing a LOT of tracks or using resource heavy synth effects you might get dropouts at that point. They do have a Zero Latency monitoring option but that won't work for everything. Like I said in the other thread I'd contact Focusrite with your system specs and be sure to ask about latency. Also you mentioned something about USB 3.0 support. Focusrite seems to have some kind of driver thingie that will allow you to use one of their 2.0 devices in a 3.0 port but I don't think I'd mess around with that personally. Have you looked at some of MOTU's stuff? They're pretty nice and will probably provide better latency. They are more expensive though.

Ok I am not too bothered about some latency and dropouts to be honest, at this point I just want an interface that doesn't cause a blue screen after all this trouble!

Well - all I can say is I am using the Saffire 6 USB, and it works without any problem (inputs/outputs + MIDI)on my slightly older computer (Asus P7H55-M motherboard, 8Gb memory and a Intel i3-540). As a side note - are you sure you used your EMU 0204 on a 2.0 USB bus? There are some problems with this device on a USB 3.0 bus.

i use it with a laptop. Zero problems going on 2 years now. more stable than my 0404 as they never got the 64 bit drivers quite right.

I'm using an 8i6 Scarlett on an i3 Dell and it's been working great, after I disabled the WiFi in the Dell.

I'm running the Saffire 6 on my "secondary" DAW which is permanently connected to the internet, used for Office/Gaming/Email etc with NO audio tweaks, and it runs really well.

As others have already posted, the Saffire 6 works just fine with Sonar X1 and Windows 7 64bit. The Saffire 6 USB should work just fine with USB 3.0 provided the latest version of the drivers have been installed. If you do decide to get a Saffire 6, make sure you install the latest driver before connecting the Saffire 6 to your computer. If you would like us to review your computer's spec. or have any specific questions regarding your system with a Saffire 6, submit a case through this link: http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/

I picked up a Saffire 6 USB for an interface for my laptop. Needless to say, I had to try it on my regular studio desktop. I was not surprised to find that the unit performed wonderfully! Great detail, very warm to the ear. And the included software was a great plus as well. The only qualm I have is this unit is USB 1.1! I heard that the newer drivers allow it to use USB 2.0 ports but I am not convinced that the latency would be a little faster if that were so. The latency had to be set a little higher than what I achieve with my MOTU 24io. But, I still say bang for the buck-wise, it is worth the investment!

Just another +1 for Saffire 6, I've used it for close to a year, and although work on smaller projects, never had one problem, and running same specs. as you. I love it!

try reinstalling the driver. I used a Saffire 6 for a year or so back in early 2011. It was solid as a rock.

If you're running Win 7 or 8, I suggest doing all of your installs with "Run as Administrator". Also, try a different USB port (Make sure it's USB2, and not USB3).
