Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP
The only way I can get this device to work with WinXPsp3 and/or Sonar X1 is to set the Saffire sample rate to 48, and set Sonar's to the same. Then it sounds GREAT! But all my projects are in 44.1 and it sounds completely garbled. If I make the Saffire my default soundcard in Windows and I play a Windows sound, it sounds garbled @ 44.1, but sounds fine in 48. That's strange, isn't it? I noticed there are some Saffire users here, so does anyone have an idea? Sonar X1 XPsp3 2.66ghz quadcore 2gb ram Adaptec TI FW400 card Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP

How many soundcards do you have in system? If other(onboard or other) is picked by Sonar as playback sync you would probably get the problem you describe. So check out which source is for sync of playback (and record as well) in Sonar Audio settings. I usually disable the onboard soundcards in BIOS in computer not to have more than one device. Note: Some USB devices do work as sound device and may also cause problems. USB microphones, Line6 POD stuff etc.

Thanks. It seems to be a via driver in my motherboard's chipset CD. I did a fresh install and the audio was fine @ 44.1, then when I installed that, it turned garbly. So now I've got to figure out which ones I can use and which I can't. Thanks.

I've run my Pro 24DSP at both 44.1 and 48 (my current setting) and both were fine. I do think it sounds better at 48. Haven't had the problems you describe...but then it is my only active interface.

Seems I can't get around the driver issue, unless it's my Adaptec firewire 400 card.... If I have to buy a new mobo, what type do you have?

I have installed the latest Asrock 4CoreDual mobo drivers. The only other soundcard in the system is the onboard (realtek) which can't be disable in bios, but I have not installed the drivers for it, so Windows doesn't see it. I can get Windows sound working at 44.1 using the Saffire, but it has a pause or stutter, e.g., it can't complete the Exiting Windows sound without a pause. In any event, even though it sort of works in Windows, once I go into Sonar X1, it only works @ 48. Can I tell X1 to sample convert all the old wave files on import? That might be OK

If you're looking for a new system or trying to figure the best parts for your existing system, my advice is to contact Jim Roseberry at www.studiocat.com He'll shoot you straight.

Thanks, I'll check out those mobos if I can't get 44.1 working and decide I can't live with 48
