Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) Audio Interface and Sonar Platinum

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) Audio Interface
Hi All, I’m thinking of changing my Audio Interface to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) Audio Interface and just wanted to check something pretty basic but I can’t seem to find any clarification.
When using the FD2i2 AI -can you use the 2 inputs to record 2 tracks in Platinum at the same time/performance and route for example the vocals to track 1 and say guitar or keyboard to track 2 so separate eq's etc can be applied.

Thanks
Ed

Hi Ed, welcome to the forum.

Yes, the scarlet will give you 2-in and 2-out. Can be used as a stereo pair or 2 separate tracks.

    Hi Ed, welcome.

I bought a 1st Gen Focusrite recently (not knowing 2nd Gen was round the corner - damn!) Great choice it will do exactly as you require.

The focusrite 2i2 doesn't have midi. If I was a keyboard player I would definitely be looking for an interface with midi.

Before you buy an interface think about all the options you would like now and for the future.
    Here's a check list I made:

And just a suggestion,  Yes you can record 2 separate tracks with most any 2x2 interface, but you can also record your keyboard to a midi track which is a way better idea. That will make it easier to edit boo boo's and layer sounds.  This is why I mentioned possibly needing midi inputs on your interface. Of course modern keyboards will have USB midi.

Really sound advice.  The other factor with the Scarletts (as Bill can attest to ) is that the 2nd gen lower-end models are already out, with the upper models due in the coming weeks.  Since the 2nd gen deliver much lower latencies, along with other improvements like better specs and smoother gain response, it makes little sense to buy the discounted 1st gen to save a few bucks.

SonarPlat/CWbBL, Win 10 Pro, i7 2600K, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, 16GB DDR3, Radeon HD5450, TC Electronic Impact Twin, Kawai MP11 Piano, Event ALP Monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Too Many Plugins, My lucky hat.
