Folders View

I would like to see some other kind of a folder view in Sonar.
I don't like the current folder view very much, because tracks in folders are intended and smaller in width as tracks outside of folders. This causes different positions of buttons and with minimzed tracks view it's more difficult to distinguish folder tracks and normal tracks.
My idea is to flatten the tracks view without indents of tracks and put the folders in a seperate column to the left.
It's better to explain with a picture, so I've done a little bit photoshop.

Maybe this basic idea of a special folder column could be extended with other features like nested folders.

I like the idea of track size and button placement consistency, but I feel like a folder column like in the mockup uses a lot of screen width.  Then again, the current track folder uses additional screen height which it's not strictly necessary.  Your idea is definitely intriguing.

I totally agree with line-up of widgets (and it's why I've argued *against* nested folders as this just makes the alignment issue worse).  Not sure about your proposal - it would take up more screen space as previously mentioned (and loss of visibility of *data* has got worse over consecutive SONAR versions), but I like the idea in principle...

With the current folder view in sonar, I often stretch the column width to get all the buttons and track names. So this also needs more width.
My idea with a seperate column could maybe need a little bit more space in width. On the other hand, it wouldn't need any extra height. Today we're working on wide screen displays with more width as height and I think it could be better to use some significant more width to preserve height.

I like the idea. I would like it to be able to be minimized if needed, though.
    Voted.
